(2,407 posts)They re just not generally good at PR. Been saying this for years. Any decent advertising company could do better. We have all the good ideas but.....

(62,477 posts)so when Dems what little media coverage they do get, it is not friendly.

(62,477 posts)right wingers did. But the motivation for Dems is not there.
Thom Hartmann did a great sub stack newsletter on this today:

So I don't know. I tried to buy some radio stations many years ago and could get no backing from liberals or labor unions. For some reason our side sees no value in owning the printing press.

(34,091 posts)today (wednesday). he brings up the subject every once in awhile
today i heard something about how we need to acquire some spanish stations--how even a few could make a difference.
i really don't understand why dems with money don't see how talk radio could make a difference.

(1,166 posts)President Biden could receive The Galactic Medal of Peace from the President of the Galactic Federation on the Whitehouse lawn and most US media would lead with "Democrats new friends ruin Whitehouse lawn."

(81,562 posts)I dont know if they appreciate the full power and importance of MESSAGING. Even now. I hope Im wrong. I hope they realize how important effective messaging is.

(6,945 posts)What they don't understand is how to get effective messaging through to the people who need to see and hear it, who are insulated from it by right wing media propaganda and main stream media bothsiderism. Frankly, I don't have a clue how to do that either. Do you? Even if we had the money to buy a huge network and message effectively on it, and even if we had a way to get people who need the message to tune in to it, it appears to me we would be utterly drowned out.

(81,562 posts)a BIG ad buy on Pox Noise. Unavoidably big. Splattering all over every daypart. Unescapable. Unignorable. And so big and splashy that they can't help but watch. Maybe have Spielberg or some very prominent film director mastermind it. And sneak the message in, in ways that Republicans find acceptable. Until the ad finishes and they suddenly "wake up" and realize they've been nodding along appreciatively to OUR messaging instead of the GOP's. Start with a pithy Abraham Lincoln quote and attribution that reminds - um, hey kids, HE was a Republican. But he talked, messaged, led, and cared like a DEMOCRAT.
I long to trouble and disquiet and destabilize the enemy. Render them all mixed up about what they stand for and who to vote for. ROCK their world and shake up their comfort zone. . Encourage and provoke them into thinking "Oh shit - I can't believe I wanna vote for a Democrat..."

(6,945 posts)But Fox has a history of turning down ad buys which do not fit their narrative. Maybe if someone they would trust would sell it to them, sight unseen - but how do you do that?
And there's also the humanly natural tendency to reject any information which conflicts with what one already believes, and which is at its strongest in the poorly educated and uneducated. You and I are likely capable of saying "Gee, maybe I've been wrong." MAGAts not so much. I'm not 100% certain that, if we could manage that kind of an ad buy (and if the powers at Fox allowed it to continue to run after seeing the first segment) that there wouldn't be riots in the streets.

(6,945 posts)because it hasn't been tried beforeBut it does suggest that top Dems are iin fact tryng.

Did twitter redo their site to stop people from sharing information found there? Thanks to the new owner?

(856 posts)The damn DCCC and DSCC can spend hundreds of millions (our contributions included!) slamming Republican opponents every 2 years in hopes of converting Soap Opera Housewives and Monday Morning Quarterbacks and especially the self-choosing, uninformable undecideds. Then in between elections we get - crickets! (except for requests for more of our money!)
About time they started National TV Ads everytime the Right proposes some bill or law that's going to hurt Americans. Tell the people in ads how the latest Right Wing BS will affect them and keep hammering it home. Hit the states where it's going to hurt people most. And don't pull any punches! Tell it the way it is and will be!
Put them on the cable BS Sites like CNN and Fox and even a lot of AM Radio. Maybe some will wake up!
You want more of our money? Start earning it. Maybe with Florida and Texas?

(11,760 posts)Ronald Reagan massively cut the tax rates on top income brackets AND the corporate tax rate, THEN for the first time in the history of the program started taxing Social Security benefits as income. Conservatives have always shifted the burden of paying for society from the wealthiest people, most able to pay, to the rest of us. Then they scream about how we need austerity, to cut spending on frivolous things like infrastructure, healthcare, food and water safety, etc... They NEVER say, "You know, the military is a full 10 percent of the federal budget and over 50% of discretionary spending, maybe we ought to look at that"
Conservatives do not give on solitary shit about anyone but the wealthy, and their own ambitions to become the wealthy.
