'We're Supposed to Be the Party of the Working Class?' Republicans Complain About 'Ridiculous' Price

Mediaite

By Sarah Rumpf Jan 25th, 2023, 9:45 pm

RNC members are gathering in Dana Point, California this week to decide whether or not to re-elect Chair Ronna McDaniel, and the only thing higher than the tensions are the prices at the posh resort hosting the GOP get-together.

A report by S.V. Dáte at the Huffington Post spells out exactly how painful those prices are at the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach Resort & Club.

“Room rates over a thousand a night,” Dáte tweeted about his article. “Parking is $75. Breakfast will cost $50 or $60. And you’ll drop $100 at dinner without breaking a sweat.”

That room rate starts at $1,283 for Wednesday night, plus a $55 “resort fee,” according to the Waldorf Astoria’s website, which brags that it is “the perfect blend of Southern California’s legendary laid-back luxury and the iconic culture of True Waldorf Service,” an “elegant AAA Five-Diamond retreat” that is “[p]erched on 175 acres atop a 150-foot seaside bluff and featuring a private beach club.” Thursday will be a little easier on the wallet with rooms starting at $881 (plus that resort fee again).

past was that they were frugal and fiscally responsible (Like Pat Nixon’s good Republican cloth coat). Looks like that trope went out the window.

Not since Abraham Lincoln anyway.

The prices given for the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach Club are exactly the point.
If you have to ask "How much does it cost?" - they don't want YOU there!

And millions of working-class voters gave them a slim majority in the House.

This country is masochist.

The GOP is the party of white evangelicals and Nazis, some of whom happen to be working class, and of wealthy assholes. They are bound by communal hate, not common cause.

If reporters can’t afford to stay at the hotel, then it makes it easier to limit coverage of the meetings to the public.

13. Who the fuck ever said Republicans were the party of the working class?

The level of delusion within the Conservative movement is ridiculous!

Even when Republicans were the more liberal party in the 1860's, they weren't the party of the working class. While the Democratic Party was wallowing in agrarianism and support of slavery, Republicans still favored big business. It was that support that caused the fracture during Teddy Roosevelt's run for President, when he broke off and formed the Bull Moose Party to run on Progressive ideas. Democrats took up the fight in the mid 1910's (except for their racial policies) and supported Unions (the working class' ultimate weapon). FDR was the President who really understood and embraced the ideas of labor, and more equitable distribution of the fruits of society (again, even though racial policy had decades of catching up to do).

What have the Republicans done for working or middle class people in the last 50 years? One policy? Something specifically designed to make the lives of the working and middle class better... just one?
