(10,474 posts)county, and yes he is impressive. It appears he has the much-discussed but seldom seen characteristic of common sense. Of course, that could be driven out of him before he reaches national prominence, but there is hope. At this point, he doesn't trigger ideologues, which is also a plus in today's environment.

(5,882 posts)We are so blessed to have him here in Pa!
(not to mention Federmann & Dean).
There has been speculation that he has national ambitions. PA usually doesn't elect Presidents; the last was Buchanan , probably one of the worst POTUS. Yea Biden was born in PA but his chosen home state is DE (and I respect that). Most PA governors max out as either Senator (if he's well loved by PA) or maybe a Cabinet position. Shapiro could get side tracked into Senator or tapped into a Cabinet position if Biden wins a second term.
Running PA government will be a good testing ground for him. He'll have to work with a split legislature that contains its fair share of wing-nuts and large swaths of MAGA goonies from the boonies. If he can keep things on track in the State, keep taxes to a minimum and maybe show he can accomplish some things I think he'll be rewarded if he wants to move up into the national spotlight. The timing (post Biden administration) seems right. We'll see.
Good luck Governor. Do great things.

(188 posts)As much as I would love to see it, I don't think there will ever be a Jewish President. Between the anti-Semitism from the right, and yes, the dislike of Jewish people from portions of the far left, I just don't see a path forward for a Jewish candidate to be elected President under our current system as it is designed currently. Then there is the question of dual-loyalty that many people hold as a belief. Are they really more loyal to Israel, or the United States. Please don't shoot the messenger, as I said, I am Jewish as well and know that these ideas and feelings are not the truth and I don't support them at all, but like it or not they are (somewhat) widely held beliefs. I very much hope that one day I am proven to be wrong. I love Josh as well, I think he would do an excellent job.

(76,462 posts)* She won see the NYC FBI's Field office and that people in that office were on Putin's payroll, Alfa Bank/Trump,
Facebook/Cambridge Analytica, Manafort/Kliminck, and the exit polls in WI, MI, PA, NC, and FL
"I love Josh as well, I think he would do an excellent job."
BTW Just like Trump has a rock solid base of at least 30% racists you can figure that the same #s
are true for % of Americans who are anti-Semitic.

(188 posts)I think that helps blunt some of the traditional "you will never see a fill-in-the-blank" President. Like I said, I hope I am terribly wrong and would love to see it. As we all (I hope) can agree upon here, race, religion, gender identification, etc.. should never be a factor in deciding who to vote for. But unfortunately for a large portion of people, it does matter. I agree, she won. * was a usurper and I forever refuse to say or believe he was duly elected President of The United States. Hillary won, and we all know it.

(76,462 posts)And for "those people" I think a large % of them only death alone will still their neurons from
firing up hateful thoughts. However Shapiro winning PA is a good sign because PA has lots of
MAGA/Racist/anti-Semitic/anti-LGBT/anti-education people.
"Hillary won, and we all know it." Yup!

(188 posts)I had no idea. Literally every single house had a * flag hanging. Some were so festooned with that crap, it looked like something out of North Korea.

(76,462 posts)I remember driving through Washington, PA in 2019 and the car in front of me had its NRA stickers
and a bumper sticker that said Hillary "Hang the C**t" along with Trump bumper stickers and
American flags. PA has some very red areas and people. 40 + years of hate talk radio/TV and now
a past 20 years of right wing social media web sites have taken their toll. I was a kid in Meadville,
PA and the town stopped the building of community swimming pool because black people could use
it too.
So Shapiro winning the state is a good sign.

(40,307 posts)I think he could well go all the way to the top, if he decides to run for President some day. But being Governor of Pennsylvania - Pittsburgh's on the left, Philly's on the right, and Alabama in between - can really take a lot out of a good person. He's starting out great and many new Democratic faces came into the Legislature on his coattails. If Shapiro doesn't burn out in the next 8 years in PA, he should have quite a following to take him to the White House in "X" number of years.
There's another Jewish possibility who might be even closer to a White House candidacy than Josh, and that's Adam Schiff. Either of those men would make a fine President IMO.
