(111,292 posts)I'm not ready to say these little girls are being groomed, only that their mothers are part of an intensely weird subculture. The little girls probably love being dressed up like fairy princesses, every day is Halloween.
The mothers get to be stage mothers in Podunk instead of moving to NYC or Hollywood. If the little girls get through the gawky stage i n short order, they're poised to enter big girl beauty pageants, which my mother always called marital slave auctions, along with the coming out party she flatly refused to participate in back in the mid 1920s.

(22,706 posts)It's like a cesspool there now. I am here to share two things.
1. There's a simple way to post the text from a tweet. All you have to do is cut and paste the text and you can also use the 'share the tweet function' which results in the tweet link. That link posted alone is like posting a link from an article without any paragraphs.
For some of our DUers, like me, the only thing that appears is a link. Please don't offer me any suggestions on how to fix it. I've already done troubleshooting and so far nothing has worked. But I appreciate the thought.
2. I was entered in bathing suit competitions as a four and five year old. I can still see the faces of some of the creepy men who were in the audience with mostly only the moms. It still disgusts me. I was told to do something that I wouldn't have done given the choice. I think it is abusive. I didn't like it at the time and never will.
All the messages it sends contribute to the continued societal suppositions that females are second class citizens who exist at the pleasure of the patriarchy. (Which is not too different from at the pleasure of a king.)
It supports and perpetuates the objectification of girls and women which is instrumental in the perpetuation of abuse and disrespect. It rewards looks at the expense of encouraging intelligence.
It is insulting to a broad swath of girls and women with the implications that looks outweigh being a well rounded, multidimensional human regardless of their appearance.
