1. It's not hard to do. Hoping it will get a lot easier.

Take a screenshot, save it to a file and post it to some host.
Yes, it should be a lot easier.
But DU's code sometimes trips up on URL's that any old browser likes.

2. I have done that, but this was an animated gif

3. So I found out when I revisited it.

I right-clicked on the meme in Opera Browser (not sure if that's built-in or an extension I loaded) and it saved an mp4 (not a gif)

Given that I could do that, I don't know of a site that hosts videos that DU will embed. (other than you-know-what)

Admins say that they're working on embedding Mastodon.

Sorry about the goof. Maybe this advances things a bit further.

You might ask the administrators (top left sidebar on "desktop" DU ). Be nice. I am sure they're working on it!

4. Right-click to "open video in new tab" only gives me a link. No embed.
