Montana youths take climate case to trial in historical first

Some Montana youths say they are fed up with their big sky being polluted in Big Sky Country and their Treasure State losing its value to the obtrusive hands of climate change.

On March 13, 2020, 16 young Montanans filed a constitutional climate lawsuit against the state of Montana — two days before COVID-19 started shutting down the United States. Held et al v. Montana is now the nation's first-ever youth constitutional climate case set to go to trial.

This is our nation’s first ever youth climate lawsuit. I don’t know what will happen…but I am hopeful. I have a 17 year old kiddo…I work every single day to model hope for him. Our kids are losing hope for their future and I lose sleep over this fact.

The magats are trying to destroy the state supreme court.

I hope they get amicus briefs from strong entities. I heard about this when it was filed but forgot about it for obvious reasons.

Good luck to them on this case and beyond.

I, too, remember when this case was first filed. I don’t recall that this would’ve been the first youth case in the United States. However, the cynical side of me feels like I know what will happen… But my deep hope is that this might be a turning point.

and the people backing them; I love Montana and I despise what has become of it under the crooked and dirty republican party.

my Montana friends!

My daughter works with a youth empowerment nonprofit in Bozeman and there's a lot of depression and anxiety among her kids.

Understandable and heartbreaking.

Society has failed them!

The depression and anxiety I see in my kiddo and his peers is staggering…and yet, they persist. They do….they have good days and days that would slay any of us. We can support these young people…and we should.
