General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe news so far about the grand jury report from Georgia is disappointing.
The judge released 9 pages. What's the point. The judge just wasted time.

I am only hoping for a nugget here and there and if we get a rough NUMBER of those recommended for prosecution, that will be revealing in and of itself.

(128,937 posts)1. The grand jury found unanimously that there was no fraud that could have affected the outcome of the election.
2. A majority concluded that some witnesses committed perjury and recommended that the DA pursue indictments.

(4,913 posts)The judge released 9 pages of nothing. He could have done that in a day.

(128,937 posts)Willis was probably spending that time getting ready to prepare indictments and getting the jump on whatever the judge did finally decide to release. I don't see a problem here.

(4,913 posts)Hell, Willis gave us more information than the judge released. She told us multiple people are going to be indicted. We already knew people lied to the grand jury.

(31,132 posts)Done, partially. I am encouraged by the fact that the jurors wanted their report made public, it must be compelling evidence.
Way to go Fani.

(128,937 posts)Sure, "we knew" witnesses lied because we knew who some of the witnesses were and of course they were going to lie. But a recommendation for indictments from the grand jury carries a whole lot more weight than "we knew."

(4,913 posts)The judge wasted time. Weeks to release 9 pages? Why bother.

(31,132 posts)Fani isn't going to indict anyone until March.

(4,913 posts)You don't believe this didn't waste Willis's time in any way? Whatever.

(31,132 posts)It wasn't her idea to release the report. Time is only wasted if you allow it. At the grocery store check out, I don't wait in line to be checked out, I enjoy the moment, why I even let people go ahead of me.

(4,913 posts)When people lie to a grand jury the are going to recommend indictments. This is not earth shattering news.
gab13by13
(31,132 posts)that Fani will wait until a new grand jury is convened in March to give her more time.
The perjury information is huge news, Fani can use that as leverage to get people to cooperate, if not, she can lock them up.
gab13by13
(31,132 posts)that Fani prosecute the people who committed perjury, that was their job.
Perjury in Georgia is a felony, jail time from 1 to 10 years.

(4,913 posts)You have to get all the facts first. That means the judge could have said i will release the report, but not now. I will not waste peoples time now.

(4,616 posts)really matter what is done. It will never be enough, or not enough. It boggles the mind people think the public should be informed of every detail about what's going on in a criminal investigation.

(15,909 posts)The report tells us:
1. No substantial fraud disrupted the election in Georgia. (We knew that already, and that's not what they were there to decide. I guess it's nice they acknowledge that, however.)
2. Some people probably perjured themselves to the grand jury -- a new possible crime committed during the grand jury process itself. That tells us absolutely nothing about the crimes the grand jury was investigating, other than (duh) some people had stuff they wanted to hide in relation to election subversion.
3. The grand jury is fine and dandy with Fani Willis going on to do an unspecified whatever she wants to do. I guess that's mildly hopeful.
4. We're tired now. Can we please go home?

(45,980 posts)The DA asked the judge to delay releasing the report. The DA presumably could've moved forward without waiting for the release, just as it is now presumed that she doesn't need to wait for the rest of the report to be released to move forward if she chooses to do so.

(96,882 posts)If the entirety of the Grand Jury report was issued, it would allow potential defendants to claim that the prosecutor was tainting the jury pool in a future criminal case. The DA SPECIFICALLY asked that this material be omitted.
fightforfreedom
(4,913 posts)Did you know the grand jury gave no time frame to when they wanted their report released. That means it could be released at any time. After indictments, after the trials were over. They did not tell the judge release 9 pages of nothing from our report now.
This is a complete joke.

Is knowing what the GJ said about Trump more important than getting a conviction?
