(141,070 posts)With these folks. They take a regular word and turn it into something ugly. Take for instance liberal. My SIL loves to talk about the liberals. Liberal judges and so on. Liberals are to blame for everything bad that happens in her mind. Smart but stupid. BTW. I am a liberal!!!

As in "The media's intelligent agenda."
"Intelligent politics"
"Intelligent liberal professors"
"Intelligent mob of protestors.

thing i love about whitehouse is that hes 1 guy who points out the true agenda of those who foment the culture wars. imho, that is srsly lacking in media/politics.
were worried about them coming for drag queens when what theyre rly coming for is our air and water, and our safety.

I think itd be a mistake to start using THEIR terms and THEIR one-liners and labeling attempts. Like with a pet, once you name it, its officially yours.
Well Im not playing. Nor am I in any mood to adopt.

(8,739 posts)They want their base to be asleep...brain dead zombies who allow their leaders to tell them what to think, to say, and to do.
Woke people look at Republican leaders and challenge their statements and actions. And we know how that sets them off into a tirade of howls of indignation and condemnation.
You can always know what truth is by how vociferously Republican leaders speak out against it.
Same for right action (not to be confused with right-wing action).

(13,913 posts)They're using it as a dirty word, just like they refer to the words democratic, liberal, & progressive as bad. It's called gaslighting.

(50,848 posts)I'm sure most anti-tax wealthy conservatives are definitely cheating on their taxes. Workers who pay our fair share in taxes should get woke to this reality and demand the cheaters pay their fair share too.

(14,586 posts)Democrats need to run with catchy easy to remember themes. Too often they leave that to Republicans thinking that we are too smart for that. We think we just need to do a Al Gore style monologue of the facts and Americans will come around.

(7,661 posts)I woke up this morning.
I was asleep but then I woke and then I wasn't asleep anymore.
Show me any human being that can become alert and conscious from the sleep state without the 'woke' process.
. . . on the other hand, don't bother - a lot of Republicans can do that it seems.
We really have to fight against some people trying to redefine the meaning of a word, and then attaching a lot of vague negative connotations to it.

(25,552 posts)Is basically a bunch of people complaining this and that has gone woke. Or praising something as anti-woke. It's become a meaningless lazy person comment. It adds nothing to the conversation.

And for that matter, it would be fantastic if Sheldon Whitehouse's name could be his job description.
