A North Carolina school district that has been repeatedly accused of ignoring or silencing students reports of sexual misconduct recently failed to do enough to help a 5-year-old girl who reported being sexually assaulted on the school bus, according to a new report from local news outlet WBTV. The girl was even allegedly forced to once again sit next to one of the boys who she says attacked her.
The 5-year-old girl said she was inappropriately touched by two boys on February 6, 2022, according to a school write-up of the incident obtained by WBTV.
She said one boy was trying to get her to kiss another, the write-up read. The fat boy was pushing her face against the window of the bus. She told her mother that one of the boys put his fingers inside my cootie and was playing around.
The girls mother told WBTV that one of the boys also exposed himself to the girl.
After the girls mother reported the incident to the school, administrators initially promised to sit the girl next to an older female student on the bus, as well as sit her in front within the eyeline of the bus driver, according to WBTV. But instead, when the girl got back on the bus, she had to sit next to one of her alleged attackers, her mom told the outlet.

(4,392 posts)i.e., "was sat" at least three times in the article??? I'd read that this dialectic use is gaining popularity among those in the UK. This "chief investigator," or anchor? in another article refers to the STEM program, pronounced with a long E.
Is this channel making use of AI-scripted articles or just mocking local readership's use of Standard English language?
IDK, but I'll never forget being told by a Brownie leader that using "I seen" would forever mark me as an uneducated boob, not that there aren't many such misogynist beings with an audience in NC.
Something is off with this story, IMHO, though there was a similar response to a threatened (violence-related) assault to my grandson by an elementary age classmate several years back where supposedly there is zero tolerance. School administers up the line and including the principal were unable to speak about what actions were taken in response to this threat by a fellow student under federal protocol and privacy. Not exactly helpful to the mom of the threatened student but that threat, unlike this alleged one, never materialized and has been largely forgotten, without traumatic effect, with the passing of time.

Aside from the callousness, it's super lazy to just ignore it.

(11,301 posts)A seat close to the front (and withing visual) is always an option. Or is the driver an uninvolved (by choice) contract employee, that simply doesn't care what issues or behavior transpires. (Not the bus driver I grew up with)

(5,126 posts)Thank the parents who always complained about their precious snowflakes being 'picked on' by the driver (because the little shiat was being a danger to others as well as themselves by not sitting the fuck down and behaving, but I digress...) and had any ability to handle this type of thing removed. Yes, back when I was going to school, if you were a complete asshat, you were put off the bus. And, the school stood with the driver. Hell, I remember many times when the driver would not start the bus until we sat down and behaved. And if it made us late... oh well... it was our own fault. (You know, that outdated concept of being held accountable for your own actions?) Those days are long gone.

The administration is on the hook for this, IMO.
Just lazy.

Start making the boys responsible for their behavior.

(17,003 posts)victimized by someone. That the school just walked away is insane. Ill throw in they are mandatory reporters and a child reported they were sexually assaulted. While it wasnt by a caregiver they still have a duty to report to the appropriate authorities.

(637 posts)It's the driver's duty to make her sit with her abuser? Surely I've misunderstood you, Sir or Madam.

(95,247 posts)I replied to a post suggesting the driver could see to it she was seated elsewhere, and I agree. That is in the driver's power.
I regret being unclear.

(52,160 posts)I don't know how this district does it but some have admin made seating charts for the bus.
The Magistrate
(95,247 posts)One would need someone to complain of the variance for any specific reinforcement of sitting the girl by a sexual bully to be imparted to the driver, or any discipline for disobedience meted out to the driver, and that could only cause more trouble for the school administration, as the reason for disregard of the seating chart would figure prominently.
