I am a heterosexual female (cis gender) who is not personally familar with all the transgender issues. I know a couple of trans people but not closely enough to discuss the issues with them.

But I remember some of what we were taught in biology regarding gender development and identity in utero and in developnemental psychology about sexual preference in partners being on a spectrum and not always either/or depending on both biology and social conditioning.

So it just seems logical to me that there are variations in identity and in attractions that are just part of life. Trying to deny or stamp out those variations is futile, then, and cruel in not accepting people as they are.

I don't know if right wingers realize that they share the same views on transgender issues as the Nazis. Pre-Nazi Germany was a very open society for LGBT people, including research into those areas. The concept of gender as a spectrum is as old as time, not some recent invention by "woke" people.

I feel so sad for my transgender friends, who are constantly attacked and made to feel unsafe.

I have a classical education, so Tiresias always comes to my mind forst as an example of transgender in the ancient world. But of course native Americans, and other peoples, hhave recognised transgender for thousands of years, and I learned recently that includes Jewish people, so I've been looking around. I'm not a scholar myself.

that all humans begin biologically in utero as "female." Gender differentiation occurs as the embryo and fetus continue to grow. Genetic "instructions" trigger the differentiation not only in the genitals, but in the brain. Sometimes the instructions are not clear cut, resulting in physiological developments that are not clear cut. Sometimes they are clear in physical appearance but not in self perception in the brain.
