Not about "economic anxiety" at all because in the sixties when white people left the Democratic Party, manufacturing jobs were plentiful. Also why states with a lot of good-paying industry jobs are Republican. Why anyone who says "economic anxiety" is bullshitting.

Basic economics.

If a company has cash and is unable to buy another company with it or is lacking investment opportunities or has a shrinking market or a number of other good reasons, then buying its own shares converts the capital from one form to another form. The total value of the company is the same, the number of shareholders may or may not lower (perhaps nobody will sell out completely) and the share price rises.

If a company can sell its own shares (new shares) to raise cash, I see no reason it can't reciprocate and retire shares by purchasing with cash.

Took the solar panels off the White House, let Rupert Murdoch in to start his and Roger Ailes
lie factory, sold weapons to the Ayatollah Khomeini, hid that money in Swiss Banks, used that
money to fund a war against the people of Central America who were no threat to America,
and had a nice little CIA/Cocaine drug running operation.

An example of just how fucked up that time was that the right and the new right wing media forces
could make a hero out such a no good shit as Ollie North, who grifted the hell out of that Iran/Contra
operation and pushed lies proudly.

funds as an asset rather than a liability. That made it so a company could take over another one and
legally raid their pension funds. He started taxing SS and unemployment income. To Reagan being
unemployed was a paid vacation. He caused more damage to the working people than any other president
in the 20th century.
