(3,252 posts)A sought after skill, by many politicians, seems to be the ability to spew word salad on a topic in the most authoritative, convincing manner.
Not naming names, but we know too many public figures of this type.

Many then go on to receive an MS (More of the Same).
Then the pinnacle of the PhD, which was just defined as "Piled Higher and Deeper".

(64 posts)First) It is terribly inaccurate to say the paper's title represents academia. It is more accurate to say it is post-modernism. Those who were there will know. Perhaps it is enough to say that C&H is just poking gentle fun. Post-modernists deserve it.
Second) The skit runs the risk of pandering to right-wing anti-intellectual attitudes about what they think is academia. Most papers coming out of the ivory towers do not sound like this. The right may think so, but we all know they have a terrible time with carefully nuanced arguments. Too little patience, and too many big words.
Third) right-wing politicians absolutely do not not talk this way. They fumble and stumble like the aggressive, mal-informed asses that they are. Post-modernism sometimes obfuscates, or seems to for those not familiar with the subject. Republicans sound like obnoxious school-yard bullies with their breath-taking assertions we can all see through. It is bigotry run wild.
They are not comparable.
Fourth) I too loved C&H.

(24,876 posts)Anyone who has listened to Peterson for more than 2 minutes would agree. This is exactly the kind of thing he would say.
WATTERSON WAS CLEARLY PROPHETIC!
BTW, I couldn't remember Peterson's first name, so I typed "pedantic asshole named peterson" into Google and his name was the first result! What an ass.
