" (Charles Manson), as far as the cover age was concerned, appeared to be rather a glamorous figure, a glamorous figure to the young people whom he had brought into his operations. (Here is a man who) was guilty, directly or indirectly, of eight murders without reason.”
President Richard Nixon; August 3, 1970.

Older community members will remember Nixon's infamous speech in Denver about the need for greater public respect for the legal system. He pointed a finger of blame at the media, for giving attention to those who showed disrespect for the court system.

Within the hour, the White House issued a "clarification." For, as every half-wit knows, there is a separation of powers outlined in a document known as the Constitution. Members of each branch should not speak out publicly about the operations of another branch that do not pertain to them. Even Richard Nixon -- or at least Ron Ziegler -- understood this.

It is wrong for republican members of Congress, or governors of states, to be speaking out about the case of Donald Trump in New York City. Even if one slips in the dickhead about not knowing about paying off a porn star, it's not okay. But this is an on-going legal case.

The republicans of today lack any of the very few redeeming qualities that Nixon had. They remind me more of Manson's followers. A few years back, I posted an essay that compared Trump's personality features to Manson's, despite recognizing that many would think that was going a bit too far. Being patient by nature, I knew that time would prove me correct.

This brings me to what my sister called "Arrestmas" yesterday while we discussed events in New York City. We are all eager to have the indictments unwrapped. But we must be patient. I remember fifty years ago, Rubin Carter telling me that with patience, the smallest creature can climb the highest mountain. I remember him saying, that same year, that what goes round comes round, unless one was talking about Richard Nixon's head. But that's not the Nixon reference that is needed to bring this around.

Nick Akerman is sometimes on MSNBC. I always recommend listening very closely to Mr. Akerman, who helped investigate Watergate. Recently, he noted that while most experts have a pretty good idea of some of the charges the grand jury may bring, there is a possibilty that there could be surprises. He then mentioned information found in the Mueller Report could come into play. I find that fascinating.

Between now and when indictments drop, rather than be anxious -- or, worse yet, filled with doubt -- I suggest doing such mental exercises as considering what Mr. Akerman said. Another option is making rude jokes about Trump. While my children insist that I'm not funny, and should avoid attempting to tell a joke, I'll share a question that has been on my mind since last night:

What do you call a ham sandwich that lies to its lawyers?

Any lawyer who would take on a client like Cheeto Benito can’t have much desire to maintain integrity or anything resembling it. They’re tainted by association with this abhorrent waste of human skin.

Our democracy is under attack, and justice has already been delayed more than enough to blunt any deterrence effect for current and would-be future authoritarians who find our democracy a troublesome nuisance for their ambitions.

Based on the Trump indictment protest turnout, the street trash has apparently been deterred a bit from some forms of defense for Trump. That's a start, but it's not nearly enough. (Either that, or they just aren't that fanatically into Trump as they used to be.)

if things are exactly as bad as you say -- and I think they are far, far worse than you say -- then being impatient about when the Manhattan DA will indict Trump is not only self-indulgent, it is not only self-defeating, and it betrays one's ability to patiently put forth their best effort to rememedy those things the potentially can if they are patient enough to exercise the self-discipline required at this time.

I favor having a fully decent DA who can not only get an indictment, but who can get a conviction. There is a distinction.

Jack Smith knows via our intelligence community who Тяцмp sold Top Secrets to and for how much $$$$$.
It's almost certain he gave away our undercover agents in Russia who disappeared.

Wonder if after his treasonous acts see the light of day, how many MAGAts will still claim him as their Lord
and Savior?

to the day the Attorney General announced that he had appointed Mr. Smith. There were those who were upset, and saw it as another delay. I posted on a few threads that they were unfamiliar with Jack, and that his appointment was just the opposite.

The documents that Trump stole involve not only US intelligence -- which alone would be terrible for him to have -- but also that of other countries. And that is part of the reason Smith was brought in.

interviewed a new witness Monday, and another today (Wednesday.
If I'm not mistakenm the Grand Jury must finalize its report before the DA can drop an indictment based on it.

There was no way that report could have been ready Tuesday without Wednesday's witness having yet testified.

In fact, I don't believe the report could have been finished by Tuesday even if Monday's witness had been the last.

I want it yesterday, or last week, or last year too. But we do not yet have time travel.

is that Trump is feeling the pressure. There is increasing tension for the old boy on two investigations. Now, he may want to put forth the Roy Cohn front that everything is a win, that he welcomes a perp walk, etc. But this is not accurate. Trump is have waves of melt-down. And that is a good thing.

Although we won't know right away, I'll be curious how Trump's lawyer answers Mr. Smith's questions tomorrow. It might, of course, be another prosecutor asking the questions, but Jack Smith's influence will be felt. There may be some "people familiar with the case" talking off the record to a few reporters. But the DOJ has really kept things quiet. So I almost look forward to that dirty shit Trump reacting.

in which we all learn we’re DONE with the donald. Because he finally reached the end of the road. How old will be be by then? What finally sent him to his grave? How much more damage will he have done to all we’ve held sacred, by then? Will he have finally been brought to justice? Will he finally have seen the inside of a jail cell? How much did he still manage to get away with, by then? Did he face or have to pay any penalties or hunker down under house arrest? And if so, for low long?

Lots of questions. Did ANYBODY wind up having to pay penalties of any sort? And what was his funeral like - lavish as hell, or hidden in shameful silence?

I find myself thinking about that stuff more and more. And I keep reminding myself: “NOTHING lasts forever.”

I tode with my son and grandson to an area city where my boy gets his hair cut. I was there to take care of my grandson, which was easy enough, as he was sleeping. I took advantage of the opportunity to read from one of my books by Erich Fromm, about a study he and another gentleman took in Germany. At the time, the majority of people were opposed to Hitler and the nazi party. Yet, we know what happened.

In the book, Fromm discusses what dynamics in society allowed for Hitler's rise to power. Of course, I was thinking of the US since 2015, and the nature of the threat Trump poses/posed. I think that the cases against him will prevent him to regain power. But there are others, perhaps more capable, and still millions of maga types.

I try to not hate, and am confident that I can say without hatred that we will be better off when Trump has passed on and no longer inhabits the earth. But we must remain aware of not only how close he came on January 6, but the enormous amount of damage he did to this country. There remains a heck of a lot of work to do, before this country heals.

How could any self-respecting lawyer, who understands the concept of loyalty to the court/legal system, work for the orange turd? He demands loyalty to him -- as James Comey noted -- and that can only and always lead to trouble.

I think it is hilarious how his advisors are trying to pretend that he is enjoying this. Yes, he might do a bit of fund-raising in the short term. But no sane person would delight in being in his position ..... and regardless of the fact he is a sociopath by definition, he is "legally sane" and is melting under the pressure.

This NAZI traitor is toast.

If justice is to be served, however, all his co-conspirators, accessories after the fact, and enablers should likewise be indicted, including the traitors Bush and Cheney who lied America into an illegal, immoral, unnecessary and disastrous war.

The courts have held firm when it comes to Trump. There have been, of course, non-Trump issues with the USSC. But with the orange bag of shit dust, they have withstood his attempts to get away with crimes.

I was talking with my son today about W and Cheney. I said the only non-lie either told about the need to declare war on Iraq was when Bush said Saddam had wanted to kill his father. Other than that, it was all lies to trick people into supporting their crime against humanity.
