MSNBC tonight was one big circle jerk over "Does this MEAN that JACK SMITH could ACTUALLY INDICT Trump BEFORE Alvin Bragg?"
It's now entered the realm of sport, and with the number of times Trump has gotten away with EVERYTHING, I refuse to sit on the edge of my seat in breathless anticipation of something that MAY or MAY NOT happen.
He may skate on the E. Jean Carroll defamation case if it's ruled that he insulted her "in his official capacity as President." I'm reading that thinking "Are you fucking KIDDING me?"
And the problem is these days no one is kidding me.
Trump will get indicted or he won't. Wake me when it's over.

(35,013 posts)woke up super early. I was refreshing DU every 15 minutes. Ended up with severe heartburn.
Nope. Not doing that again! I'll just wait until I'm alerted by text or something. It'll mean that I miss history unfolding but oh well.

(10,870 posts)When Queen Elizabeth fell ill/died, I had to go to a lab for the day. That morning, I had an ear bud in one ear on my way to campus streaming CNN, and I was kind of checking my phone between attempts trying to get DNA to dance across a gel electrophoresis. For the same reason you cite: It's history!
Kind of a messy business. Felt like I was not getting my experiment done because of the distraction. Then I realized - the internet exists. News will be there when I get home.
Sure enough, every news channels announcement/retrospective/footage was on YouTube when I got home. In the end, it didn't really matter than I was 45 minutes late to the party. I missed nothing.

I am sick to death of hearing about the guy. I have a feeling if he went to jail that is all they would talk about for years.

Seems DU is spending more time on the play by play than MSM.
That is my opinion.

(18,764 posts)that it will happen is after it has happened. There isn't any other way to deal with the near infinite false starts without being a willing dupe.

(15,909 posts)Yes, it'll happen or not, but this rhetorical tautology doesn't ease my impatience and sense of urgency about the subject. If the news folks weren't spinning out endless speculation, I'd be doing it on my own, but with less data to go by.

(10,264 posts)announcing his own imminent arrest and then blasting out a quick fund-raising email, wasnt a little blatant even for his snake oil guzzling redhats.
Considering it didnt happen.
Hundreds of people have gone to jail for him, and more go every week. And he has done nothing for any of them.
All he does is ask for more money.
And more people to show up and risk arrest for him.
Eventually they have to notice.

He SAYS he raised a million and a half on it. I doubt that is true, but I bet he got half of that.

And I'm not putting any eggs in the Bragg basket. I think it's too possible that will turn out to be a misdemeanor. But Smith and Willis seem to be closing in on something.
Maybe by summer we'll see something. But I reserve the right to change that estimate as summer approaches. As I have for so many years now. (My family has former ties to the NY construction industry. I've been waiting for 40 years.)
But I do have to say, DU seems much more civil about the whole question lately.

(23,704 posts)There were no leaks, outside of Trump himself. But the police was definitely preparing for the indictment, and there's no way they'd do so only based on Trump's words. The DA had to tell them to go ahead with their security plans.
Now maybe these new phone records made them amend their indictment and they have to bring it backl to the grand jury, hopefully today.

Not a whole lot of confidence in our "Justice" system...it generally doesn't apply to the ruling class.

(10,870 posts)Imagine if the people on cable news or Twitter had the same expectations as other lines of work. Where the things they're saying, sourcing, or sharing have to be vaguely correct and true.
Half the pundit class would be out the door tomorrow.
Their only job is to keep people reading/watching/clicking. They don't have to be informative. They never even have to be right. They just have to get viewers.
My approach to Trump indictments is there in your OP title - it will either happen or not. I have no power over it. My watching or not watching affects it not at all. I'm not going to spend hours speculating or arguing about Garland or declaring that my crystal ball is better than someone else's magic 8 ball.
It's a fantastic waste of time. And I say that as someone who wastes a lot of time on the internet.
I read an OP last night where the person was talking about how physically and mentally exhausted they were from Indictment Watch. No one should be doing this to themselves. People are cashing checks on generating and sustaining that anxiety. Don't let them exploit you. You can read/watch nothing about any of this, and you will know if something happens the same exact time as everyone else.
Unless you're watching it all wryly, find the wrongness hilarious, and are approaching it from a, "The media really are terrible and not full of the best people" entertainment. Then I say go for it. I'm still laughing over the breathless Ides of March thing. Sources say!
I have sources in my home saying I might make toast in a little while. 50/50 they end up being right.
