Honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. (while refusing to honor Walker)

As has happened on this date for more than thirty years, there was a celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s life today in the Wisconsin State Capitol. As has happened for more than thirty years, the Governor attended the event. Many areas of the Capitol were strategically blocked off, in order to reduce the poor weasel's exposure to the reality of what the people of Wisconsin think of him.

We attended this event, along with a few hundred of our closest friends. The music was outstanding, and the speeches we could hear were rousing and inspirational. Thankfully, we didn't hear much of Walker's brief speech, due to his weak voice and the acoustics in the rotunda. What could he have said, anyway - this person who insisted that the painting of children be removed from the Executive Residence - you know, the painting that displayed Wisconsin children with different heritages than his own pasty-white existence?

Throughout the event, my friend and I displayed the banner that I had made last April, for the march honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. on his birthday.

When Walker stepped up to the podium to speak, virtually all of the attendees who were not in chairs turned our backs to him. We also displayed the backside of our banner, another MLK quote that said, "Truth crushed to earth shall rise again."

I took this photo over my shoulder as Walker was speaking - you can see that most of the people have their backs to the pin-head who is up on the next level.

Thank you, Martin Luther King, Jr., for showing us the way - for teaching us about civil disobedience, which we have taken to calling "civic duty." We felt your presence there today.

SOLIDARITY

If not for him, and others like him, I probably would not be here today.

MLK will live on in history books while Walker is a POS who will soon be forgotten.

your pictures, and of course, your attendance at the capitol. Wish I could have been there!
