I had a known MAGAt, a neighbor, go off on me yesterday about the white powder and death threat to DA Bragg -- how deserved it was. The MAGAt has soured on tRump and has mega warmed up to DeSatan. About a week before the death threat news about DA Bragg, he asked me what I thought of DeSatan. I just laughed and changed the subject. We periodically run into each other since we live across the street from each other and during the 2020 election he took offense at my window sign -- "Trump for Prison" -- and tries to light me up over politics nearly every damn time he sees me.
Well, yesterday he proceeded to tell me that Bragg was a total nothing. I told the MAGAt that Bragg was a Harvard law grad...and that was something. The idiot MAGAt took the bait -- He spewed negatives about Harvard law grads and what POS they are, worth nothing, self interested only...etc.
When he stopped, I smiled, and sweetly said, "Well, DeSantis is a Harvard law grad..." Mr. MAGAt just stood there, said nothing, skewed his facial features a bit (might have been trying to think) then and walked away!!!!!!! I just waved...with a smile on my face!
Edit for leaving too much space at the end of my post.

IMO, law school just gets you your ticket -- assuming you pass the bar -- it does not educate you to think like a scholar or perform like a legal adversary using verbal and documentary stilettos. That type of conduct is based on pure native talent, an ability and a gift given only to a few. Your list of names above are true examples of the nothingness that law schools can and do produce. I can think of a few more...the name Gym Jordan immediately comes to mind!

(65,322 posts)There is zero evidence Cruz has genius properties in any area of knowledge. He certainly has never displayed any, and his public opinions on various legal issues don't strike me as particularly deep or insightful.

(65,322 posts)I see zero evidence of genius ability in any area of study.
Also, the same is said of the school of economics at the University of Chicago. They have Nobel winners whose theories have shown to be completely wrong in practice.
Too often, the reputation of "greatest *insert discipline here* minds" is university marketing.
Lucky Luciano
(11,266 posts)It is quite likely that he must have dominated others at law school. He clerked for the Chief Justice of the SCOTUS. Only the best recent grads get to do that . He was a champion debater and argued a lot of cases before the Supreme Court. You just dont get to that level by being run of the mill or subpar.
Unfortunately, his opinions are terrible so he advocates for the worst things possible. It would be better if he truly were a moron.
His emotional intelligence is very low though. Yes that is clear.

Universities generally dont allow people to graduate depending on their political beliefs. And thats a damn good thing.
What? You think universities should prescreen for politics? Youre thinking of a different kind of university - and there are certainly some of those.

(81,557 posts)Well done! Know your facts and you WILL win the argument. I suspect the other side will always be helpful because they latch onto the quick-'n'-dirty and don't think any farther or deeper. And the quick-'n'-dirty always provides good slogans, like that personal favorite of mine: "pasteurized process cheese food product".
If you know your stuff, you're better-armed than your opponent will inevitably be. They cling to cute Pox Noise-style talking points that sound good, but easily shredded into little pieces.

No offense. I visited the campus and Harvard Square often.
And no slurs intended except to the hypocrites who run down others profusely.
I worked in aerospace and shortly thereafter at Cal Berkeley. Tolerance was my trademark, both for the social darwinists/Ayn Rand folks and the liberals. DU tends to be edgier.
I've noticed certain posters around DU who are shit-stirrers. I think it's okay to ignore them. Just a word to the wise.

But now one of the pundits has her convinced the rioters are all "political prisoners".
Just in passing I mentioned: "I'm confused. Is it the violent Antifa prisoners now the Republicans say are so innocent?"
She short circuited.

(2,809 posts)Since political discussion is sort of a "reportable offense" in the workplace, especially if it get heated. I've planted what seeds of wisdom I can. From there it's out of my hands. It's a very deep red area here, 6 more weeks on this gig and I'll eventually be back in the bay area mid-summer.
But it was funny to see her get pretzeled up in that contradiction.
I'll speculate, gathered clues that her kids will probably work on getting her completely off the MAGA kick eventually.
