(25,856 posts)I recall him saying to me that he didn't think I'd approve of some book he was reading at his school. I was honestly distressed by this. Yeah, he understood my stand on various things, but what he didn't know, what I'd not conveyed to him, was that I wanted him to read as many different things as possible, to be opened to all sorts of viewpoints and opinions.
I no longer recall the book in question. It doesn't matter. I'm one of those left wing liberal types that want my kids to be exposed to lots of different things, varying beliefs, other kinds of opinions or viewpoints. How silly is that?

(16,845 posts)They were very religious Baptists, but they never censored what books I could read. There were some things I know they didn't approve of, but nothing was ever said about it. That's a great gift to a kid, especially considering where my parents were coming from, religiously and politically.
