I just watched the body cam video and the Nashville Police got right down to business. No hesitation, no more concern for their own safety versus the children/adults in the building. They put to shame the police in other mass shootings who failed to do their job.
I also saw that they released some security footage on how the shooter gained access to the building and some of her walking around. She made is clear that having glass doors as your entry point provides no security at all to the safety of those in a building. She just shot the glass out and stepped through into the school.
Kudos to Melissa Joan Hart and her husband for assisting a class of kindergarteners fleeing the school get across a buy highway. Her family used to live in Connecticut and her kids went to school close to Sandy Hook. The family moved to Nashville and the boys go to school in close proximity to the school where the shooting took place. Melissa and her husband were on the way to conferences (so their boys were not in school that day) and stepped right up to help.

(63,804 posts)middle school has metal doors, like those in other areas, which would take much more force to get past.
The perfect shouldn't be the enemy of the good.

(38,804 posts)that are not locked. The door was locked so and she just shot it out. Then they say we shouldn't have
glass doors. What is next no windows in schools? A few kids get shot here and there that is the price of freedom
according to their Congressman. How could that guy be elected, he is worse than Santos.

(31,590 posts)Could be a difference between individual police officers.
Could be a difference between police training.
Could be a difference between police command (put officers in the field in charge, do not wait for higher ups to arrive).
Or could it be something else...

Respectfully I ask.
Also the loud alarm seemed a hindrance in locating the shooter,if the police could hear better they could have located the shooter even faster.
They did a great job.

(128,937 posts)the shooter was female at birth and had only recently started to identify as male. Most people seemed to know them as female, using the name Audrey, so it's not entirely clear what their situation was.
