2 charged with cutting wires; 40,000 lose internet service

NORWALK, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut police have charged two people with cutting more than 2,000 fiber optic cables, leaving over 40,000 homes and businesses without internet service in the southwestern part of the state.

Norwalk police said they arrested Asheville, North Carolina, residents Jillian Persons and Austin Geddings on Saturday during a surveillance operation. Both were charged with larceny and criminal mischief crimes, as well as interfering with police. Persons also was accused of giving a false statement to police.

Both were detained on $200,000 bail. It was not immediately clear if they have lawyers who could respond to the allegations.

Or were they just causing destruction for the hell of it? If I am incapable of creating I can always destroy (The mantra of conservatives everywhere) I suspect that the cute couple are in deep doo doo.

It is funny when they crawl way up and try to cut the high voltage and the power company has to come and remove the crispy critter.

Maybe they thought that would disable internet based security systems. Not too smart as if that is substantiated that is likely a federal offense as well as stupid as plenty of alarms used leased lines to the Verizon central office or are now wireless as backup if not main mode of connection. Dude has those tight pupils so I'd say he is on meth too.

Anti-government domestic terrorists, extremists, supremacist/neoNazi united in physically attacking critical infrastructure, eg.
North Carolina, Oregon, Washington, Maryland.

Between January and August of 2022 there were 106 reported attacks on power stations, substations, and other elements of the power grid in an order to stir civil and economic unrest that could lead to a race war.

The law is the law of course but it’s obvious many laws need to change.

Not that you can get blood out of a turnip with these two.

Some underground utility work was being done near a place I used to work. They were being extremely careful because some fiber trunk line went through and if they cut the line then they could be on the hook for several thousand dollars per hour of down time plus the actual repair costs.

Hard to tell if these two were trying to steal copper or more wannabe domestic terrorist.
