I have said this a few times. What brings me some solace in the whole Trump saga is that inside his mind, he is never not suffering. He may have been able to avoid major consequences for his wrongdoings but he cannot escape the constant nagging of knowing he never has been and never will be good enough. His braggadocio and aggression are a cover, an attempt to chase away those demons. He may actually believe some of it, but the reality is that when he is alone with his thoughts, they are very likely NEVER peaceful.

I face challenges every day. My job makes me experience things that are unsettling. I can however, sit at home at night alone with my thoughts, and be relatively certain that I am trying to be the best person I can be. I have my own insecurities but they do not make me into a raging, vengeful asshole. I am usually at peace and can sit alone with my own thoughts.

Trump cannot. No matter how much of a front he puts on that he is a "tough guy" and "the best", he is driven by the idea of avoiding humiliation. He has lived in his own mind prison for most of his life, because he cannot bring himself to face his own insecurities and problems.
