General Discussion

I had this thought last night while watching the MSNBC Special Report. Laurence O'Donnell described walking through the park across from the Court and being followed by a guy who was yelling questions at him about his vagina. O'Donnell was very deadpan about it and had the panel in hysterics. It struck me that Trump, if he was watching this, would be furious.
Today, I read that Trump is calling for the defunding of the FBI and the DOJ because they're after him.
MTG gets chased out of the park. Lindsey begs for the peoples' last dollar.
And on and on.
These people, and the Republican Party in general, aren't rational. They can't be reasoned with. They must be ridiculed. They must be laughed at.
Trump hates to be made fun of. He needs to become a joke.
How do we get this to catch on?

(25,285 posts)It's going to be quite a lot of time between now and when there will be a trial - if we ever get to that day.
Betweena now and the trial - I think the thing that would frustrate TFG more than anything is he being ignored.
Since he announced that he was going to be indicted 3 weeks ago until today - the MSM talked about TFG 24/7. He loves when he is the center of attention.
What needs to happen is he needs to be ignored. Don't talk about him. Don't show countless pictures of him every time they mention his name. Pretend he doesn't exist.
That would drive him crazy and would probably cause him to do something outrageous.
As you said in your post: Nothing to him is more humiliating than knowing he isn't in charge. I'll add to that: and also knowing that he isn't the center of attention on the news and he feels neglected.
And as you noted: His humiliation is going to take care of itself.
Let nature take its course and it will catch on.
Somehow - he'll screw up and further humiliate himself.

(629 posts)I thought the MSNBC coverage was fine, and they dug down deep into the legal stuff that underpinned the charges. I switched over to CNN later on, and the difference in tone and analysis was really striking. They were still throwing up their hands and asking where is the there there, and a lot of "I'm not a lawyer" but I'm gonna pretend to be one on TV.

(49,052 posts)(Truth be told, the rump has been ridiculed for decades and it continues through all the periods covered by the tropes.)
The trope goes:
First they ignore you.
Then they laugh at you.
Then they attack you and try to burn you.
Then they build monuments to you.
For the rump lickers it will be:
First they lie to you.
Then they sell you merch.
Then they use you ("pro-life" .
Then they abandon you (J6, no swamp drained).
For the rational public it will be:
First they ignored him.
Then they attacked him.
Then they convicted him.
Then they laughed at him.
Then they used him as a lesson for future generations.
The rational public will never ignore him again. He will be more infamous than even Benedict Arnold. After a couple of generations rump's cult will die. Benedict Arnold has no following in the US of A.

(25,505 posts)Trump detests being mocked. As such, he should be mocked relentlessly at every opportunity.
Had we (as a society) just laughed his ass off the stage, as he deserved, instead of taking him seriously as a presidential candidate, he likely would have gone nowhere.

(2,123 posts).....the political spectrum. The perfect example of this, to me, is when some anti-LGBT church folks showed up in San Diego to demonstrate against all the sinful goings on at the Comic Con convention. Big mistake. A few hundred wildly creative folks, already dressed in great costumes, made clever signs and came out to surround them in a counter-demonstration.
Turning TFGs trial into a real circus would be humiliating, for him, and great fun for us.

(1,671 posts)If this is really just a political stunt, then the jury isn't going to convict. Why all the pressure to keep it out the court and threaten the legal system? It's just an indictment at this point. I've heard it said that a competent prosecutor can always get an indictment. I have to assume that Bragg wouldn't have brought it to the Grand Jury if he didn't also think he could get a conviction, but Trump has not been convicted yet. So the threat seems to be that the jury is also politically motivated? Trumps lawyers get to question the jurors, remove the ones they don't like. By the end the defense attorneys will try to make that jury as aware as compost. All the screaming and gnashing of teeth makes me think they know he's guilty, allowing him to get away with his crimes is obviously politically motivated.

(2,264 posts)..for a while. The crazy stuff he says is so, so outrageous, it eventually ceases to be shocking and becomes laughable, triggering a "I can't believe he said that" reaction. The hypocrisy and projection in his comments are so obvious one can't help but laugh though it's not actually a laughing matter. But you have to remember he's talking to the 'base'.
He knows there is a segment of the population that wants, even demands, to hear and believe what he's saying. They are not interested in hearing the truth. The Dominion vs FOX lawsuit has confirmed that.
But I'm convinced the 'Trump Effect' has lost momentum and the untruther crowd is getting smaller for whatever reasons. What goes around has come around and a lot of the chickens have found their way home to roost. The Manhattan indictment is the first of more to come. He may never be convicted of anything but the trials and negative publicity resulting will have a detrimental impact on his 'Trump Effect.'

It's the best way to handle them. Do not give them anything but ridicule and derision. Do not stand and try to argue. They cannot be reasoned with. They must learn the consequences of their actions. If we don't give them such consequences, they will destroy everything.
