Damn,

Months after Hurricane Ian blasted Southwest Florida, the full scope of the storms damage has come into view: Ian now is officially the costliest storm in the states history and the third-most expensive in the nations.
The extent of the storms damage was detailed in a report released by the National Hurricane Center on Monday. Ian has racked up more than $112 billion in damage worldwide. Of that, more than $109 billion was in Florida.
The report outlines the life of Hurricane Ian, from its inception, to its landfall, to its eventual dissipation.

(19,382 posts)Last time Nino was here, Florida went 10 years without a major hurricane. Hopefully that happens.

(768 posts)You needed to have insurance on your insurance....since the insurers aren't paying up on what they insured!
Nice work if you can get it.

(25,400 posts)After 6 plus months, we still have roof tarps and boarded up homes. Honest contractors and the supply chain are swamped with job requests and some insurance companies are ghosting us.. some closing shop and refusing to cover any new policies or honor the ones they have.

(292,370 posts)Those are unusually high deaths tolls for a U.S. hurricane, said Jeff Masters, a meteorologist for Yale Climate Connections.
All 66 deaths directly caused by the storm occurred in Florida. Storm surge alone killed 41 of those people, the report states.
The report concludes that maximum storm surge ranged between 10 and 15 feet above ground level on Fort Myers Beach and Estero Island.
I think a lot of those deaths were avoidable, Masters said. The fact that Lee County waited so long to issue an evacuation warning is of concern.

(25,400 posts)The fact is a lot of people waited too long to prepare or leave but I ask this when youre in the cone of uncertainty for 5 days and the hurricane is as massive as Ian was, do ya sit and stare at it waiting for an evacuation warning? I realize that there are people in this world that need to be hand held but I have no sympathy for that view. The local tv and radio stations constantly telling people where shelters were..how to prepare booklets came out months prior. What upsets me is people not pulling out their boats and now, we have environmental problems because theyre stuck in mangroves or leaking fuel and ruining our estuaries. Lack of common sense or just right out not caring is a major factor for our problems now. Imo.

(67,112 posts)Our insurance rate for the condo building had gone up $100,000 per year before Ian. And personal insurance when up, plus assessments. It's going to be prohibitive to even think of living in Florida unless one has megabucks. And the politicians suck.

Florida hates most of the Gods. It's weather tragedies are consequently their own fault.

(165,338 posts)The death and destruction in his district has been heartbreaking. Meanwhile all he cares about is "tax relief". From what I understand from a number of news articles, many of the people living at ground zero were actually low-income support staff for the resorts in the area and "tax relief" is probably the least of their worries.
