The unmitigated gall of this man.

https://popular.info/p/update-tennessee-speaker-admits-his?utm_source=substack&utm_medium

'UPDATE: Tennessee Speaker admits his family lives hours away from the district he represents'

'...Speaker Cameron Sexton (R) represents District 25, which encompasses the community of Crossville, about two hours outside of Nashville. Under the Tennessee Constitution, Sexton can only represent District 25 if he is "a qualified voter of that district."

John Spragens, an attorney in Tennessee who litigates election law issues — including residency challenges — agreed that there were legitimate issues about whether Sexton was a legal representative of his district. "Residency for voting purposes involves several factors, but someone could easily conclude that Sexton is living in Nashville," Spragens said. "He’s not the first speaker to do that — just the first to expel members while his own house is not in order."'

They were discovering that the people who ran for office, and won, didn't even live in the Metro area. Orlando was governed by the suburbs. They forced the issue and it stopped happening. And today, they have Maxwell Frost.

It was many thousands of dollars. Far too much to be a mistake. He knows he didn’t drive those miles.

Santorum school flap continues

Daniel Reynolds | Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 12:00 a.m.

U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum should reimburse $100,000 to the Penn Hills School District for taxpayer money used since 2001 to cover online charter school tuition for his children, four school board members said Thursday.

The senator will not respond until the board makes a formal request, said Santorum's deputy chief of staff, Robert Traynham. "He has done nothing wrong," Traynham said. "The Penn Hills School District for the last four years has paid for (Santorum's) children to attend the charter school and have seen nothing out of the ordinary. They have basically said, 'This is OK.' "

Questions over his residency prompted Santorum to announce Wednesday that he is withdrawing his five school-age children from Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School in Midland, Beaver County. The No. 3 Republican in the Senate, Santorum owns a $106,000 home next door to his wife Karen's parents in Penn Hills, but he and his family split time between there and a $757,000 house in Virginia. Santorum's annual Senate salary is $157,000.

"He's admitted he's not a resident. I'm going to put up a motion for him to pay back the entire amount," said Penn Hills School Board member Erin Vecchio, chairwoman of the local Democratic Committee.

I doubt the Tennessee Republicans are happy with all the negative attention he's brought them.
