The company announced it is planning to stop production of the Chevy Bolt at the end of the year.
Instead, GM will shift its focus to electric trucks.
The assembly plant were the Bolt was being made... Will now house production for the 2024 Silverado EV pickup.

I am not an EV guy but at least this was affordable by today's standards. They are knocking off the lower priced models and replacing them with the high priced ones.

(9,003 posts)They are legacy automakers who will be fair-weather EV manufacturers with one foot in both camps. They are entirely content to slow-walk this EV thing and milk their ICE investments in parallel for every last dollar of revenue.
Tesla is still the best game in town. Both feet in.

(7,295 posts)Someone in corporate GM went down to the EV department and demanded they stop being successful as they were trying to kill the project. This was ages ago when the first electric vehicles came out and they made huge hurdles to obtain one. Think Honda actually made a 100 of electric vehicles as they thought they were going to have to compete in that market, then GM strangled their baby and Honda went ahead and just sent them to the wrecker. They never hit the dealerships.
But on one hand, it makes sense. The dealerships make a lot of money off of warranties, repairs, parts, etc. EV's would severely cut into that. The ICE is an integral part of the business model. Tesla, no matter what you think Elon Musk, actually became the disruptor of the market. China has growing EV market, but good luck in seeing those cars ever appear on our shores.

(1,983 posts)Since Tesla and Musk are out of the question for me, I guess my next one will probably be a Nissan Leaf. At least those don't look like space frogs these days...

(7,291 posts)"The 2022 Equinox offers a bit more maximum cargo volume (63.9 cubic feet) than the 2022 Bolt EUV (56.9 cubic feet) when you fold down the second-row seats. However, both have plenty of space for your family to get comfortable. The 2022 Bolt EUV and 2022 Equinox offer ample legroom for second-row passengers, at 39.1 inches and 39.9 inches, respectively."

Supposedly the new Equinox will be affordable... I'm not holding my breath.

(3,275 posts)I agree with you entirely, I wish Tesla would build the Model 2 they've talked about and I would love to see smaller trucks and wagons all electric.
But yes, they push trucks and larger SUVs and we all end up with poorer visibility and less space for reasonable-sized cars.

2. GM has developed a new EV platform that all of their EVs will use
3. They had poor range
4. SUVs sell better than small cars
