Sponsor Of Bill To Drug Test Welfare Recipients Busted For DUI

Hey, if you like fat-cat politicians who want to drug test welfare recipients even as they themselves cruise around drunk as fuck in their shiny sports cars, have I found a guy for you.

A conservative Georgia Republican who wants to piss test everyone on public assistance failed a test of his own Friday morning: he showed up intoxicated after he ran a red light, according to an Atlanta police report.

State Rep. Kip Smith, 29, of Columbus, was pulled over just after leaving Hal's Restaurant; he allegedly ran a red light, and was arrested after failing the DUI test, reports Christopher Seward at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

world wide:

Alcohol causes nearly 4 percent of deaths worldwide, more than AIDS, tuberculosis or violence, the World Health Organization warned on Friday.

Rising incomes have triggered more drinking in heavily populated countries in Africa and Asia, including India and South Africa, and binge drinking is a problem in many developed countries, the United Nations agency said.

Yet alcohol control policies are weak and remain a low priority for most governments despite drinking's heavy toll on society from road accidents, violence, disease, child neglect and job absenteeism, it said....

Drinking in excess of legal limits and driving is not legal and that is what the congress person has been charged with.

So based on your responses should I presume that you don't believe welfare recipients' civil rights will be violated by being forced to take drug tests? And since the congress person's only alleged crime is that he may have drank and drove in excess of the legal limit there is a false equivalency being made here in calling out his hypocrisy in regards to making poor people piss in a cup to prove they don't smoke pot?

If I'm misunderstanding please feel free to elaborate on your position.

This isn't about the validity of the laws (although the laws in this regard are absolute bullshit). It's about the hypocrisy of the lawmakers. If this asshole can't even be bothered NOT to put many lives at risk by his drunken behavior, he sure as hell has NO business telling people that they need to be piss tested to receive benefits. At all.

The post that you responded to was about this asshole's unmitigated hypocrisy. Yet you jump to this asshole's defense by saying that the substance that he consumed wasn't illegal. Talk about not getting the point! The point is that this asshole should not be deciding for others what they need to do to receive money.

And you're now saying that he's ONLY guilty of drunk driving? Oh, he ONLY could have killed multiple people. He should not only pay a legal penalty for what he did, he sure as hell should have NO bearing on what people need to do to receive their money.

And once again, why the hell are you defending this asshole?

The answer is simple. Don't spy on, test, or discriminate against Americans in violation of their civil rights as guaranteed in the U.S. constitution. It's that document that states Americans have a right to privacy in case this has been forgotten.

workers, aid recipients, and perhaps public students? Yet this legislation only deals with the issue of testing for welfare recipients.

Based on your own statement this is tantamount to discriminating against just one sector of government funding. Are you saying you are ok with the law being applied selectively to only poor recipients of tax payer funds? Or should the bankers, teachers, politicians, janitors etc also be tested?

Either way the current legislation is being selectively applied to both the class of tax payer funds being affected and the crimes that they are being forced to preemptively prove they have not committed.

Are you suggesting that this asshole is any less of a hypocritical jerk for breaking the law using a legal substance rather than a legal one? Pot isn't responsible for one millionth the deaths as alcohol is, we're supposed to cut this asshole a break because he risked killing someone with a legal substance? GMAFB.

Are you not aware what a hypocritical asshole this man is? Does it not disgust you that this hypocrite is attempting to make the lives of others miserable for doing something which is infinitely less harmful than what this man did? Does hypocrisy not faze you at all? Just because you have to piss in a bottle in your spare time doesn't mean that it wouldn't be an affront to the rights of others.
