(3,419 posts)He wasn't paying attention when he was at the pump, hit the wrong button, grabbed the wrong nozzle, and voila. Diesel fuel in a non-diesel car.
There are 8 million-odd hits for it on Google, too, so I don't think it was just my friend who's ever done that.

(16,457 posts)The diesel nozzle is sized larger in diameter than the filler hole in gasoline cars to prevent someone from being able to insert the filling station nozzle.

(3,419 posts)I've never driven anything diesel, myself, so I've never even picked up the diesel nozzle.

Love the red carpet couture.
But I don't care what people wear.
Last summer one of the teenagers in the neighborhood wore an interesting
outfit while walking her dog. The girl was wearing gray sweatpants with
just a Victoria bra on top, no shirt. I know it was a Victoria bra because
I bought enough of them for my daughter was she was a teen.
The girl was an attractive young blond and was able to pull off this look.
It didn't look bad at all. But I confess if it has been my daughter I would
have told her to go get dressed on top.

(129,560 posts)what people wear. One never knows when inspiration will strike.
Irish_Dem
(79,818 posts)worn in the 1920's in various films. It was a special display
at one of the large museums in Boston which happened to be available
when I was visiting a cousin who loves clothing like I do.
The fabrics and designs were exquisite.
My cousin and I were stopped cold by one dress that was
incredible in terms of fabric, design, with sublime beading.
We couldn't believe what we were looking at.
Turned out to be vintage Coco Chanel.
She briefly tried her hand at Hollywood clothing design.
But it turns out that haute couture did not translate well to
the screen, the colors, fabrics didn't always show well on camera.
So the trend was to go to designers who understood how things look
on screen.

(79,818 posts)My cousin is brilliant, way smarter than I am.
But she is easily transported, like I am, into another place and time
when we are gobsmacked by genius.
So we were mesmerized looking at the incredible Coco Chanel
dress and we didn't move, transfixed. We suddenly realized there
was a line behind us and we were embarrassed. So we rushed off.
Same thing happened to me at the National Archives when
I saw the Declaration of Independence. A guard had to tell me
to move on.

(4,741 posts)One of the museums (DeYoung?) had a Balenciaga exhibit, which included dresses worn by actresses, Euro aristos and other well-to-do women. The people with me (husband and his aunt) knew nothing about him, but they humored me by going along to look. They wound up as charmed by the collection as they were impressed with his artistic sense as a designer (aunt is an artist). All the most famous designs had an exemplar, but the surprise stars were his outfits inspired by flamenco--lots of black lace, full skirts, flat hats, but done in a new and unique way.
Lovely collection, start to finish.
As for shopping finds...Once got a gorgeous suit for $10 in a vintage store in a skeevy neighborhood. The clerk must have seen only "old, 40s" and didn't look inside. Or she didn't know what it was.
I knew what it had to be when I saw it wedged into a crowded corner, took it out, and the label confirmed it: A near-mint Christian Dior, circa 1948-1949, so original New Look. Later, I sold it to a hard-core fashionista for not nearly as much as it was worth, but I was on the dole and needed tax-free cash in a hurry. It was still a substantial sum. Plus, the jacket never fit me right, and it didn't look as smart hanging open as it did buttoned.
The workmanship on it, though... Exquisite. Dior has always had top-notch cutters.
I also found a quilted Chanel handbag at a garage sale for $10. I don't know about now, but in the 80s & early 90s, Denver was the queen city of garage sales. The stuff available was crazy awesome, and the prices were a bargain-hunter's dream.

(79,818 posts)Thank you for the stories, I love it.
Oh that was interesting about the Balenciaga flamenco inspired designs.
I will go look online and see if I can get some pictures.
OMG mint condition Dior. And Chanel handbag.
Yes the workmanship is such high quality from these vintage designers.
We don't see it now, at least I don't at my price point.
Edit to add: I did find the Balenciaga flamenco dresses. Outstanding!
and guys who are secure in their masculinity don't give a shit what other guys wear either
