WATCH: A woman on I-95 in Florida gets pulled over at a Customs and Border Protection checkpoint, despite the fact that Florida does not share a physical border with any other country.

Specifically, federal regulations give U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) authority to operate within 100 miles of any U.S. "external boundary." In this 100-mile zone, Border Patrol agents have certain additional authorities. For instance, Border Patrol can operate immigration checkpoints.

Sister Mary Jesus Christ told me a long time ago that not asking people where they were going separated the u.s. of a from russia.
Apparently we've made the transition to step 4 without realizing we missed step 1 thru 3. and the fuckers waited until the men that fought against fascism overseas died out to bring out the boots.

(1,501 posts)I was shocked to see him, but only because I have never seen BP up here. [Full disclosure - I live five miles from the Canadian Border here in Whatcom County (WA).] I was heading east on Mt. Baker Highway, which is a 55 mph, two lane road. He was looking right at me and my face registered my surprise at seeing a BP truck. He immediately jumped in his truck, gunned the engine and departed the spot he was in, spitting gravel in the air. By the time he caught up with me, not even ten seconds had passed, which tells you how fast he had to have been driving. He climbed right up on my back bumper - within 12" of my car - and stayed there until he could read my license plate. Then he stood on his brakes, screeching and smoking, and made a u-turn in the street, peeling rubber that stayed there for weeks.
Driving at that speed, and tailgating me that closely put me in immediate danger. That road twists and winds like a slinky. There are no sidewalks on Mt. Baker Highway, and much of the time, there is no shoulder either, only deep culverts and ravines. It is not unusual for deer, bear and the occasional big cat to wander into the road, so driving that road is a laser-focusing task. After I arrived home, I called BP and complained about what I felt was a reckless and foolish play on the agent's part. I was especially irritated by him tailgating me like that. They said they would look into the incident. I never heard back.
Since that time, I have heard from friends and neighbors who have had encounters with BP up here. Most of them unproductive and a waste of time. I guess BP thinks Canadians are trying to sneak into the US for our fine health care system, our low prescription meds and our safe guns zones (Heavy sarcasm here.). I think they are overreacting.
Oh, why did he back off after reading my license plate ? Simple. I have a WA State plate with military logo. Only active duty or retired military folks can obtain those plates (after proof and documentation), which would make me a US citizen.
