Dont bother watching the dumpster fire.
This is a fucking joke.
CNN owes the nation an apology.
And stop calling him Mr President.

(33,424 posts)But elected officials retain their title after they leave office. The media generally follows that standard.
Farmer-Rick
(12,663 posts)It is never used to address a former president.
This is what Emily Post has to say about that title:
"When addressing a former President of the United States in a formal setting, the correct form is Mr. LastName. (President LastName or Mr. President are terms reserved for the current head of state.) This is true for other ex-officials, as well."
But CNN knows that. They want Trump back in office so the filthy rich can get another tax giveaway. By calling him Mr. President they buy into the big lie. That he magically mysteriously won the last election.
But what the filthy rich Samuel DiPiazza and David Zaslav (Chairman, president and CEO of Warner Bros Discovery inc. who own CNN) really want is to call him Lord Trump.

(33,424 posts)On news shows they have former Senators, Cabinet officials, Governors and they address them by their former title. But don't take my word for it:
How to Address a Former President
-Envelope or a letters address block:
--The Honorable-#3
--(Full Name)
--(Address)
---Or a bit less formally:
----The Honorable (Full Name)-#3
----(Address)
-Salutation:
--Dear Mr./Ms./Dr./etc. (Surname)-#1
--Dear President (Surname)#2
-Conversation:
--Mr./Ms./Dr./etc. (Surname)#1
--President (Surname)-#2
-#1) Traditionally former presidents go back to the form of address to which they were entitled prior to taking office. The logic was that it was a one-person-at-a-time office so only the current office holder would get the forms of address. For example, in retirement Dwight Eisenhower was correctly addressed as General (Full name) on the envelope and as Dear General (Surname) in the salutation. After Harry Truman left the presidency he directed others to address him as Mr. Truman.
-#2) The contemporary practice is to orally address and refer to former presidents as President (Surname) in conversation or in a salutation. NOTE: The current president is the only one to be identified as The President or addressed as Mr. President.

I did not watch the townhall and if they said "Mr. President" instead of "President Trump" then that was wrong. But you and the other posters are wrong when you say they should say "Mr. Trump."

(12,663 posts)All those "journalist" who fail to follow the rules need to take it up with Emily Post.
Yes, according to the OP, they called Trump Mr. President. It's a way of emphasizing the big lie.

(33,424 posts)Emily Post is using out of date guidance decades old. The media has moved on. Maybe other people should also.

(13,003 posts)CNN will intently be watching their viewership numbers to see how their "New" direction is being accepted by the MAGATs.
I certainly wouldn't be watching in order for them to add my viewership.
Not to worry, you will see sound bites and video clips for weeks or more by the entire 85+% Republican owned/operated Media.
This whole clown show is way beyond repulsive...............
The Republicans are still going all out in order to win the 2024 elections. Once they have that, they will operate as any Tyranny does.
For a preview, just view: Russia, China, North Korea, etc etc etc...........

(3,213 posts)The more people that watch to see how bad it is, the more ratings CNN gets, which is why they're doing this.
If they get abysmal ratings, maybe they'll stop doing this crap.
