"Tornado watch in Iowa," Trump wrote on Truth Social, his own social network launched after he was banned from most other platforms. "For safety of our great Patriots, we have been asked to delay or cancel todays[sic] sold out Rally."
Trump claims that he is "ready to go," but advises his supporters to "seek shelter or safe haven!"

(12,904 posts)Guarantee that no one in Iowa has stopped any activity for a watch. Theres pretty much a watch in Iowa at all times right now. Much different than a tornado warning.
But seriously Don, dont be a hero
you better stay where you are.

(51,308 posts)Yes, watches may be common, but a tornado forms unbelievably quickly. That many people without shelter can end very badly.
I can't remember what concert it was not long ago, but the stage came to bits, towers toppling on people, debris flying everywhere and people panicking.
The officials made a wise decision imo.
The crepuscular boil probably had nothing to do with the decision.

(51,308 posts)It means that conditions are right for a tornado to form.
No way would I be out in the middle of a park with no shelter with the possibility even of a bad thunderstorm. Lightning can be deadly, as can even a long straight line wind
YouTube will show you some concerts, events, etc., that get hit with one of these monsters. It's not pretty.
I take tornado watches seriously, no matter how often I hear them.
And that is exactly what the weather service wants you to do.

(66,116 posts)There are few things I would consider important enough to not just wait for the watch condition to expire.
Of those few things, zero involve being outdoors!
As you said, we are supposed to take watches seriously.

(34,209 posts)here in Kansas. A watch? If it turns into a warning you deal with it. I seriously doubt Iowans would have felt like staying away if he is their thing.
I will say after last night in Kansas and then I believe it happened up in Nebraska as well (I fell asleep so I do not know that for sure) we had tornado after tornado after tornado. It was and probably still is volatile so maybe that is why but a watch mean watch and go about your business but just be aware.
I am sure it is just Donald.

We get these serious storm alerts all the time. I think we have gotten one every day so far this week. Most of the storms hit Tonganoxie and then either go northeast or southeast of us.
I'm paying attention but so far we look ok.

(12,904 posts)It saves us from the early ones.

(28,373 posts)Trump called off his own rally for a tornado WATCH. That's watch, not warning.
Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa - literally nobody calls anything off for a watch. Ever. That's just a "keep an eye on the weather" type deal. School, church, softball, bbq's, everything continues as planned until there is a reason to do otherwise. Half the time it doesn't even rain, let alone storm or kick up a tornado.
But check it out:

I'll bet just about anything the campaign flunkies determined DeSantis was going to have a bigger crowd than Captain Mango and this was the only "graceful" exit they could envise.
