Two thumbs up for Biden's speech this morning

Yeah I was up at 5:30 am this morning. So I watched his speech and him taking questions. He knew the issues, always on point and no senior moments. I am 68 and yes, I have senior moments. Most of all I keep forgetting words. Such as ambiguous, which is the word they use to describe intersex people. And oh yes you do need to educate people on that issue. I personally had no idea it even existed.

I just started forgetting the word ambiguous. There was a post on here assuming everyone knew about intersex people. No they do not know. They need to be educated. That discussions just tied in with my senior moments. I have had this trouble since my chemo 24 years ago. so there you go. I do think you need to go with educating these people, they do not know. They are framing them as perverts, and you need to fight that with education. Yes this veers off in a totally different direction. Biden's speech was good. I do not remember Trump ever being that knowledgeable. He never knew the issues,

where he mentioned how the GOP wanted to "increase military spending" but "cut" programs for the poor and middle class (paraphrase).

House Republicans’ plan is not about fiscal responsibility.

They’re pushing tax cuts for the rich, all while working to cut programs working families count on.
House Republicans' Idea of "Fiscal Responsibility" A chart show that the cost of extending the Trump Tax Cuts skewed to the wealthy is $3.5 trillion and savings from poverty-increasing work requirement proposals are $11 billion.

MAGA House Republicans are threatening a default that could cost us millions of jobs and trigger a recession.

All because they are demanding deep cuts that will hurt hardworking families – even while they protect tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations.

Pres Biden says the House wants to cut Vet benefits but magas say its a lie.. behind a paywall, though.. and early May.

Maybe they changed their minds about cutting Vet Benefits and that's why Biden isn't talking about it?

Just found this..

Republicans Vow to Boost Veteran Spending Amid Debt Ceiling Fight

16 May 2023
Military.com | By Rebecca Kheel

(snip)

The Biden administration has been arguing the GOP-proposed spending caps would mean a 22% cut to the VA, a number derived from the assumption that Pentagon funding would be spared from cuts while every other department would take an equal cut.

The claim infuriated Republicans, who insisted veterans funding would be safe from cuts while also threatening to retaliate against the VA over the messaging.

But still left unsaid by Republicans is exactly where they plan to find about $130 billion in cuts to government funding. Boosting VA funding and Pentagon funding, as Republicans have also said they want to do, would mean deep cuts to other government agencies that Democrats are unlikely to agree to, making it doubtful the VA spending plan released Tuesday is exactly what will become law.

Democrats claimed the GOP plan could, for example, short the funding for benefits meant for veterans sickened by exposure to toxic chemicals.

They are SUPPOSED TO go through each Department's budget request, one by one, in the assigned Committees, and start doing markups for what the appropriations will be for that department's/agency's line items for the upcoming fiscal year (FY24, which starts October 1st, 2023).

But they don't want to "do the work" and would rather shortcut it by holding the debt ceiling hostage to demand draconian cuts in the things that they don't want (things that help actual people and the places that they live) so they can INCREASE the funding for things they DO want (more military and more subsidies for big corporations who have already realized record profits), while removing even more revenue that those big corporation and the wealthy would pay in taxes, instead of being required to pay their fair share.

So much of what Congressional Republicans have proposed during budget negotiations is simply unacceptable.

It’s time for them to move off their extreme position and act to avoid default.
