I like Tony Dokoupil, but journalists/news anchors need to do a better job interviewing political candidates. I watched his interview with Nikki Haley and I was disappointed with his questioning. He refused to ask follow up questions that needed to be asked. As a result of him not asking follow up questions, Haley was allowed to give vague answers that did not show how she would do anything that President Biden is not already doing.
The first question Dokoupil asked Haley was what she would do in response to China's actions near Taiwan. Haley stated the United States needed to respond with strength. I would have liked for Dokoupil to respond by asking her to give a specific action that she would take in response to China's actions. Dokoupil then moved on to ask if Haley saw the United States ending up in a confrontation with China in the next 4-8 years. Haley responded by saying that our problem stemmed from America's botched exit from Afghanistan. She claimed that the United States left Afghanistan in the middle of the night without telling our allies. I do not think that is true, but Dokoupil did not challenge Haley's statement. Haley then went on to say that Ukraine has to win its battle against Russia. My understanding of the Ukraine situation is that Ukraine has been able to fend off Russia because of President Biden and the Democrats. If the Republican Party had gotten it way Ukraine would not have gotten any help in fighting Russia. Dokoupil did not bring up that issue and he failed to ask Haley what she would do to help Ukraine that President Biden is not already doing.
I realize these interviews are limited by time, but I would really like it if people like Tony Dokoupil would force political candidates to give specifics about their policies instead of just letting them point fingers at their opponents and claim their opponents are doing a horrible. Candidates should be forced to say what they would do different than their opponents.

(13,122 posts)I wonder how much of this right-wing tilt comes from Joseph Malone, a right-wing billionaire and large shareholder.

Honestly I think all the media is doing a bad job these days. They refuse to hold Republicans accountable for their horrible ideology.

(16,209 posts)media rarely hold republicans accountable. There are a few reporters that do, but they are few and far between.

(43,878 posts)They havent figured out yet what to do because these candidates know exactly how to stretch out their non-answer to fill the time. I need to break in and talk over them. Thats what the candidates do

(61,033 posts)statement a couple of days ago that we needed to side with Russia on Ukraine (her staffers walked it back, saying she mispoke). It seems she was not questioned at all about that as she sided with Ukraine last night.
And none of the pundits reviewing her performance mentioned that glaring gaffe either.
What' up with everyone give her a pass on that?
