So, legal twitter says, due to the seriousness of the charges, that it is highly likely that the GA campaign event that Trump held on Saturday is his last ever political event.

There are other tweets echoing the above.
Due to the flight risk and the incredibly serious nature of the charges, it is expected that Trump will be immediately imprisoned on Tuesday afternoon at his arraingment. In short, and I don't think the magnitude of this can be overstated, by Tuesday at 5, Trump is done and out of our lives forever!!
Also, my apologies for my initial reaction to the Cannon draw. It was most unfortunate. I suspect you will see her be a completely different and fair presider over this arraingment and upcoming trial, after learning from how hard she was slapped down by the 11th circuit during the special master proceedings.

(4,741 posts)Treason applies during war. We weren't in an actual war with anyone.
The charge he would be guilty of is sedition.
Not sure how many times that has to be spelled out.

(7,099 posts)Supplying foreign entities with National Security secrets is the definition of providing "aid and comfort".
While "treason" can be used colloquially, espionage may be better suited.
The Rosenburgs were executed in 1951 for supplying the Soviets with top secret information. We weren't at "war" with the USSR at the time either.
If you think Dump has not harmed our national security profoundly, well then semantics are a waste of time.
I think Dump committed treason against the United States no matter what the formal definition is.

We've been living in a surreal world whose downfall began in November 1963. The corporate plan to take over our republic was penned into existence by Lewis Powell in 1971, and Ronald Reagan ensured its success in 1987 when he killed the Fairness Doctrine at the behest of Don Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney.
Trump is nothing but a cheap con-man. He will likely be imprisoned at least for a short time. There may be acts of domestic terror by his Nazi-vangelical (or perhaps Christofascist) followers. But if we want to save the republic for another century or two, it will be a long uphill climb for the Millennials and GenZ.
For me, I'm TIRED of 'alternative truth' and our weak-kneed corporate owned media's 'both-sider-ism,' when we all know the truth.

(15,359 posts)a fraction of the cost is a joke.
Offhand, I'd say 1/4 of an ounce of mediocre weed gets you about what you'd pay for $70 bucks worth of edibles from a weed shop. Numerous people agree that one of my cupcakes is equal to three gummies or candies. The 10mg edibles. I get ounces of my edible weed for under $40. I have a mad scientist grower buddy that gave me some high CBD weed even. I honestly couldn't tell the difference. I hoped to.
I'll replay with my cannabutter recipe link if anyone wants.

(10,986 posts)The 5mg gummies (perfect amount for me) are 20 for $30 at the dispensary here in East Central Florida. Convenient. Flowers at the store are fairly expensive.

(15,359 posts)The cheap weed makes great edibles I promise, if you can get ounces in that range.

(15,359 posts)It would be almost impossible to get busted even though we're a Nazi state. I almost never even drive. I'm luckier than most. I will say that in my town, the cops are known to mostly just confiscate weed if nothing else is going on. You wouldn't expect that, but our cops are not assholes around here. It is mostly white guys around here like me though, so who knows what it could be like otherwise. We could have as many Oaf Creepers on the force as anywhere and I'd never know it. Old white guy privilege you know.

(4,855 posts)If the Secret Service can prohibit putting handcuffs on him and can override his own decision to travel to the Capitol to be with his followers, they would appear to be the final authority.
"We can't protect him in a prison facility" is all I would expect them to need to say in order to preclude that situation.
Unless Congress authorizes a prison division to be operated by the Secret Service itself rather than the Bureau of Prisons.

(78,610 posts)it isn't high enough to rate a zero yet. Perhaps in the future.
We know his position plays a role. No doubt. And we know that anyone else would be in the slammer. Yet there is another factor -- he is not likely to go on the run, couldn't hide if he wanted to, and will show up for future court hearings. In time, if he keeps running his mouth and advocating violence, then he will be jailed.

(2,241 posts)It *should* happen. It would happen to anyone else. But jailing Trump and, by necessity, his Secret Service detail is just not happening at this preliminary stage. I don't think it will happen even after he's convicted.

(4,741 posts)Barring delay motions, federal law requires holding the trial within 70 days of a subject being indicted.
I expect the Tangerine Toddler to try every delay tactic imaginable, but, anytime those delays get cleared up (and they probably will be in the fed's favor, and on an expedited schedule), the clock again sets to 70 days.
There's only so much road for delays, and this dirtbag is running out of it, fast. He got some of it knocked down through his own stupidity with this and other cases, like executive privilege and warrant/seizure challenges. Everyone who was complaining about what's taking so loooooonnnnnnggg?
Guess what--That means Smith had the fat nitwit using up many of those delay tactics *before* the indictment, rather than after. That's something nobody saw coming--that a prosecutor would use TFG's own tactics against him. His job as a prosecutor is now a whole lot easier because TFG used up much of his best strategy early, while Smith kept chugging along with gathering more evidence--and got more time to select and word his charges to take advantage of what he saw from what the idiot showed from his hand.
Smith has played him masterfully.
That's why I predict we'll get to trial before the year is out.
