It is my understanding that Hunter Biden can no longer own firearms as a result of the charges against him. And from the nra...crickets.
Ja Morant, a (superb) NBA player just got a 25 game suspension for stupidity, er, flashing a gun in a video. As far as anyone knows, the gun(s) in question was legally obtained by Morant. And yet...silence from the nra.
Could it be that Biden is the son of the PotUS and that Morant is an African American? Could that be the reason the nra has said nothing publicly to support either man's "2nd amendment rights"?
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that if Don Jr. or a Caucasian basketball player had the same situation, the nra would be screaming like crazy. Just sayin'.

(3,823 posts)Absolutely. Remember it was Ronald Reagan that signed into California law The Mulford Act that prohibited the public carrying of firearms. It was enacted to stop The Black Panthers from armed neighborhood patrols.
You want new gun laws? Start arming black people and Republicans will turn on a dime.

(5,219 posts)For no reason, and the NRA will create a narritive that favors the murdering good white guy because that's what it really is about. White male supremacy.

(4,552 posts)I have been saying for a long time that we need arm all black people.
Black Panthers carrying guns shocked the nation. Having our black neighbors walk to the corner store with and AR would shock the nation again.
52 percent, 17 percent of mass shootings are done by white people. https://www.statista.com/statistics/476456/mass-shootings-in-the-us-by-shooter-s-race/

(2,708 posts)Hootie: The Mulford Act that prohibited the public carrying of firearms.
In 1967 as governor. Reagan also supported the 1981 Brady Bill (enacted 1993) and 'urged' the congress to pass it.
About a dozen state's constitutions had provisions to enable their state's legislatures to prohibit or proscribe carrying concealed weapons, dating back to the 1800's (Ironically, open carry was not proscribed, since others would be forewarned that gun carriers were about and revolvers were a far cry from today's rapid fire semi automatics. Today the situation is about reversed, argumentatively).
Note that all these states excepting new mexico, are today red states:
(Lousiana) 1879: "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be abridged. This shall not prevent the passage of laws to punish those who carry weapons concealed."
Louisiana (as late as 1974): The right of each citizen to keep and bear arms shall not be abridged, but this provision shall not prevent the passage of laws to prohibit the carrying of weapons concealed on the person. (1974).
Mississippi: 1817 thru 1890: The right .. shall not be called in question, but the legislature may regulate or forbid carrying concealed weapons
Missouri: 1875: "That the right .. but nothing herein contained is intended to justify the practice of wearing concealed weapons
Montana: 1889 The [rkba] right .. but nothing herein contained shall be held to permit the carrying of concealed weapons. .
New Mex: 1912: "The people have the right to bear arms for their security and defense, but nothing herein shall be held to permit the carrying of concealed weapons."
NCarolina: 1868: "A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; and, as...
1875: Same as 1868, but added "Nothing herein contained shall justify the practice of carrying concealed weapons, or prevent the Legislature from enacting penal statutes against said practice."
Oklahoma: 1907 The [rkba] right .. but nothing herein contained shall prevent the Legislature from regulating the carrying of weapons. 1907
Texas: 1836 thru 1868 .. the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms, with a view to prevent crime.
Utah: 1896: .. the legislature may regulate the exercise of this right by law."
Florida: 1838: "That the free white men of this State shall have a right to keep and to bear arms for their common defence."

(4,932 posts)A black man with a legal conceal carry license is shot to death by the police because he just happen to have his legally purchased firearm on his person. Reason he was stopped was because he "fit the description" of a robbery suspect. Castile was shot to death seconds after informing the killer cop he had a firearm on his person.
Took the NRA two days to issue a milquetoast statement, saying: "Castiles death was troubling.... As far as I know they never said another word publicly about this killing. This pretty much pulled back the NRA's cover; they are the defender of your gun rights ONLY IF you are Republicant and white (preferably male).
The original poster is correct, in this case had Philando Castile been white, the NRA would have screamed like crazy and would have issued multiple SM messages before the body was cold.

Also, in your "free as a bird" statement, you forgot to add $1.2 million dollars poorer.
