(25,448 posts)I lnow, becuz they terrorized me in high school! They use slide rules, compasses, and protractors--weapons of math instruction!

(25,448 posts)...solving a triangle for a project. It was faster than trying to figure it on a spreadsheet, or looking up an online app. I'm still pretty good with it.
I will give up my slide rule when they pry it out of my cold dead stiff fingers!

(53,061 posts)After she said yes I asked her how could we operate computers on Roman Numerals.
She stared at me and I told her, "A bunch of Corinthians go into a bar and one holds his hand up making the"V" sign and says "we will have 5 beers".
It took 15 minutes to explain it to her.

(9,805 posts)I hold up my hand making the "V" sign and ask, "What does this mean?"
Most respond with Peace or Victory.
I say "Nope. It's a Roman ordering 5 beers!"
Then I walk away.

(39,351 posts)He was completely unwilling to make faith-based aircraft parts.
When we were setting up the tooling for some new part he always had to do the math first. He could have avoided all that trouble, and not wasted all that time in engineering school, if he'd just had the faith to ask God if the bits of metal we made were adequate.

(25,448 posts)This is really going to multiply the negative effect of hatred for our values, and subtract from rational discussion. I think it's just going to make things tensor in the current environment, but I suppose it's just a sine of the times. It's completely irrational.
