TOPEKA Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach chastised Gov. Laura Kelly in a court filing Friday for recognizing the identities of transgender residents in a dispute over gender markers on drivers licenses.
In a petition filed in Shawnee County District Court, Kobach asked the court to order the Kansas Department of Revenues Division of Vehicles to comply with Senate Bill 180, which took effect July 1, and issue drivers licenses that reflect a residents sex at birth.
The new law is based on model legislation from a far-right group and attempts to strip transgender residents of their identity. The governors office said last week that state agencies would continue to issue documents that reflect an individuals gender.
Quoting John Adams we have a government of laws, and not of men and invoking the Declaration of Independence, Kobach argued the governor must execute laws passed by the Legislature whether she likes them or not.
She does not possess the power that English monarchs claimed prior to the Glorious Revolution of 1688, namely, the power to suspend the operation of statutes, Kobach wrote in the filing. Indeed, the Declaration of Independence was in part a reaction to this practice.

(3,396 posts)if your drivers license (or any identification such as passport) is supposed to list your physical attributes, the concept of listing what
. Your actual body looks like seems relevant sort of. I can see it for some identification purposes, missing persons, Jayden Doe situations
And if thats the case perhaps all we need is an Identifies as category on the ID. That still doesnt sit right with me, however I can see where needing to be able to physically identify someone based on their parts is necessary for an ID.
Ok shred away, because I know thats how this will go.

(35,136 posts)I really though after our abortion vote that the state would not turn around and vote in people that will do anything to change it back and make it worse and take all the LGBTQ+ people down with us.
I do not get how this jerk, after everything he has done here, could possibly get elected again but here he is and again he is a huge jerk. Sadly he is not alone with this. Back to fighting what we had already solved and nobody got any hurt from it except the giant d***s like Kobach.
