Well, let's see what's in the news:
Mitch McConnell became a zombie for 19 seconds.
Hunter Biden's laptop has been more examined than the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Texas Governor Abbott and Florida Governor DeSantis are each trying to prove they're a bigger prick than the other.
"America's Mayor" Rudy, admits to "not telling the truth." Is that the same as lying?
The thugs in The House want to impeach Joe Biden for ... you pick it.
Climate change is going to kill us sooner than we thought, but not this month.
But we're all waiting for the big one: The indictment of tfg for trying to overthrow the government of the United States.
And when it happens, we all know he will threaten to destroy anyone in the universe who believes this hoax.
Will it happen today? Will it happen tomorrow? Will it happen before I post this? Will it matter?
Ahh, there's the question. Will it matter? I, for one, don't believe it will lose him a single vote.
And, if I'm right about that, America has become far more fucked up than any of us thought possible.
Can you believe that this grotesque creature could actually end up winning/stealing the next election?
I'm doing everything I personally can to stop it, but I'm also keeping my passport up to date.

(44,409 posts)Not from his base, of course.
But any moderate, independent, or even nominal Republican who might have been inclined to vote for him aren't going to want to vote for someone who will likely have at least 4 felony indictments to his name come election time.

(40,671 posts)They've been playing the long game & I worry our side is still waking up to the fact that the repub party has been hijacked by Christian white supremacists. I'm in the camp that Garland took too long. Democracy's gonna be hard to hang onto as climate change gets worse.

(22,049 posts)Polls have shown a gradual erosion in Trumps support from likely voters, often in response to the question would you definitely vote for Trump in 2024.
The erosion is subtle so far, but after additional indictments, and debates where hes a no show and Christie spends the whole time bashing him, who knows?

I found some great material on persuasion (having to do with climate change, but other issues can be treated the same way)
I'll share after I absorb it all.
In the meantime, share with young people who don't have a "history" with politics (and ensuing disasters and shitshows)
So that they don't have to learn the hard way.
Democrats have compassion for others.
When every person
a. is guaranteed rights, opportunity, and equity,
b. can make a good living,
c. is respected,
then all benefit and the nation benefits.
Government invests in its citizens.
Labor and innovation create wealth.
Productivity gains are shared with those who are less blessed than others.
Government is by the people and for the people.
The legal system protects rights, especially of minorities.
In short: equality, honor and fairness.
The thugs have no compassion.
They believe that:
Money and power are concentrated in the hands of a few.
Business grows by monopoly aggregation and by stifling competition.
Freedom means no regulation. Nothing more.
Government enforces "the economic order" (a caste system)
Workers and voters are kept from uniting, chiefly by a divide and conquer strategy, i.e culture wars.
Welfare for the rich. The fraud called "Trickle Down" really means "golden showers". (wink, wink)
In short: inequality, arrogance and privilege
or just outrage over imagined/manufactured fears. Cult.
I've also got a short (keep it short!) issues summary
For the campaign
Keep government from dictating what you read, your religion and your private life.
The working person deserves a break rather than welfare for the rich.
Americans believe in and defend the constitution because no American gains from harming another.
Protect and expand medicare and Social Security so that health care is denied nobody.
There is health, wealth and dignity for all when everyone pays their fair share.
We fight for individual rights where others would deny them.
America's needs are met by responsive, responsible government rather than contrived and fruitless culture wars.

(4,598 posts)My neighbor is a like minded friend but his helper I did not know, he was probably 25 or so.. He was smart, funny and charismatic as hell. A go-getter if you will. After about the 3rd beer we started in on more political discussion and during this time. I asked him directly what he thought the general mindset was of folks his age was relative to current times and he said
Nihilism.
This kid was a shinny example of modern day college educated youth. This is a very small sample size speaking for a larger group but if this is true and I have no reason to think that it isn't. Our efforts need some focus on combating this.

(16,385 posts)but theres nowhere near enough of them to win him the election. Independents and some Republicans who voted for him but dont really like him will start to turn on him, especially if hes convicted. Hes not winning the election.
