Dad taking his daughter to watch the Barbie movie is legend!

In a touching and joyful gesture, Eleazar Rodriguez made his daughter, Katherine, incredibly happy by taking her to watch the movie Barbie. But what made this outing truly special was that Eleazar dressed up as Barbie himself, wearing a tutu and embracing the character. This act of love showed how much parents would do to bring joy to their children.

Katherine asked her dad to wear something pink to the premier.

Eleazar’s love for his daughter knows no bounds. When she asked him with a playful challenge, “Daddy, take me to the Barbie movie premiere, but wear something pink, or will you be embarrassed?” he wholeheartedly embraced the idea, knowing it would delight her. In an interview, Eleazar humbly shared, “For the sake of pleasing my family, I would do anything.”

but:

1. Taking your daughter to a movie she's interested in is basic parenting. Can we stop writing literal news articles and having viral videos for "man parents and isn't a sexist piece of shit to his daughter"? When was the last time we had a ticker tape parade for "Mom takes son to soccer game and wears jersey!"?

2. A man wearing pink or a dress isn't an event, especially when it's wrapped up as "look at the extreme lengths this man will go because he loves his daughter!" It reinforces sexism and transphobia to say that wearing a particular color or cut of clothing is an act of sacrifice for which he should be applauded (ala "I'll do anything for my family! Even see a girly film wearing girly clothes!". I'm AFAB and wear men's clothing every day. Where my award?

I'm not saying this to trash a clearly lovely man doing a lovely thing. But can we actually think about the assumptions behind this being a news article and the message that that sends to women, girls and trans people? I.e. Your dad is a superhero if he shows your interests basic respect.

No one was disrespected by pointing out something beautiful. Message sent is guys should be good fathers.
Many are not. Could just as well apply to a trans man or a gay man who's a father.

It reinforces how low the bar is for everyone else with a penis when it comes to parenting their daughters and that cross-dressing is an extraordinary sacrifice for a cis man because he loves his child and not a totally normal thing that trans people do every day.

Is he a good father? Yes. Is "man is good father" front page news? It shouldn't be. That's my point.

I'm a older gent with 4 girls and one adopted boy. It's a special thing when a father or man can show their caring like this. I didn't always do so and wish I had.

Doesn't detract from the fact that many children get most of their nurturing from the women in their lives. We can all do better.

Yes, women do these things every day. But the fact is men DON'T do these things every day.

If we never hear about it when they do, what is the message? The message is the MEN NEVER DO THESE THINGS. I think that may be even worse.

I suggest if he inspires even one other father to do somethng similar, it's worth it.

But I did think the father’s playful sweetness is pleasant to see in these troubled times. I wonder how they liked the (also not so simple) movie after all that.

To risk ridicule dressing up like this for the sake of his daughter.
Just look at some of the comments on the Facebook page it was posted on if you don't think he put himself out there doing this. Your suggesting he wasn't taking a risk here. He was and hell yes that should be applauded.

This Dad took a lot of grief for doing this if you look at many of the comments on the Facebook page it was posted on. He's getting applause by some for risking ridicule. That's what makes this different from all the wonderful people who do amazing things for their kids and don't get recognition. This took courage and a father comfortable in his own masculinity in a very hateful climate.

With so much crap going on in the world it’s nice to see a little girl have a good time with a dad who isn’t a transphobic freak. His gesture is what is needed so it does become the norm in this screwed up country.

One of these days I’d like to see a nice story like this and just let it make me smile and not have it made into something negative.

She apparently has a special hate for American football, but it turned out all 4 of her boys love it. So she did what Moms do ... she learned all the rules to the point she is one of the coaches for her community leagues - and apparently pretty good at it.

They did an article on her in the local paper. It started something. First they added a spot in the paper every week to highlight parents doing what parents do. Now it is a whole "good news" section that highlights all kinds of people being good people.

I can understand why someone might look at this Barbie story in a negative way, but not me. Especially given the current climate, the more the better.

who was worried the movie was inappropriate for her 9 year old daughter. She'd heard it was subversive, that there was a trans woman in the cast, that it was all about the patriarchy.

She really enjoyed the movie and decided it was just fine to take her daughter to see it.

I wonder if he asked her if he could dress as Ken... As it is, she told him to wear Pink and he reacted as a Ken by serving Barbie, his daughter. As a dad, he could have informed her that Ken was an option. But he opted to actually be a Ken and do what he was told.

(My opinion is very meta. Getting at Gerwig's heart of this movie, which I've been researching for some time.)

It's because he makes no attempt to be a convincing Barbie that he's grinning from ear to ear. He has the sort of middle-aged figure that you want to see on the guy who comes with a tow truck to take your car to his repair shop, but it was not made for tutus. He's laughing at the whole "guys wear this and girls wear that" delusion. He will wear what amuses him, and get a good laugh out of it. And his daughter has such a shy smile. Maybe she needs to be less shy, and with Eleazer for her father, she'll learn to laugh whenever possible.

And that's what's missing from our various culture wars: anyone laughing at themselves. I haven't found anything funny about climate change yet, but grown men running around afraid of drag queens? Hilarious!
