Former Vice President Mike Pence declared that he was deeply offended by conspiracy theories from Vivek Ramaswamy after his fellow GOP presidential candidate questioned the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Pence, in comments to New Hampshires Union Leader newspaper, slammed Ramaswamy for telling conservative Blaze TVs Alex Stein that he doesnt believe the government has told us the truth about the terror attacks and that he doesnt believe the 9/11 Commission.
Pence said the 38-year-old Ramaswamy was probably in grade school on 9/11 while he was on Capitol Hill.
I think comments like that, conspiracy theories like that, dishonor the service and sacrifice of our armed forces who fought against our enemies determined to kill us, Pence said.
Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur who has pledged to pardon Donald Trump if elected, said he had no evidence to suggest the moon landing was fake before answering Steins question on whether 9/11 was an inside job or exactly what the government tells us.

(8,387 posts)It's easy to dismiss nutters as not having a lot of influence. But these kinds of things are like the welcome mats outside the door to some really destructive cultlike influences, e.g. Q, and the remnants of the Larouchies, Birchers etc.. It's not even a matter of right v. left, since they draw from across the spectrum.
That's a good way to put it, though, the nuttery is merely a tool to get people to disconnect and throw up their hands. They'll go on about things like the "uniparty" to suggest there is no point in engaging in ordinary politics, since there are secret powerful forces behind the curtain that control what only appear to be political options.

Does anyone actually think those same people are going to elect a guy named Vivek Ramaswamy?
Yeah, hes nuts alright and he doesnt stand a chance in hell of ever being elected President, much less winning the Republican nomination.

(9,238 posts)There are a lot of people on our side who think we weren't told everything about 9/11.
And I'm not talking about the inside job, fire doesn't melt steel beams, building seven demolition nuttery (although there are plenty of those people, too).
I just mean, details about Saudi funding, who knew what, just how much was known beforehand and ignored or let slide.
"The government isn't telling us everything" covers a lot of bases between batshit crazy and reasonable questions.
(For the record, my belief is government incompetence missed all of the warnings)

(8,387 posts)The 9/11 Commission Report goes into quite a bit of that.
The W administration was distracted by stupid pet projects and wacky priorities to the detriment of paying attention to what was going on.
What impresses me about the various nutjob theories is the extent to which, by dismissing the 9/11 Commission as "the official story", they discourage people from taking a hard look at how much culpable malfeasance it actually documents.
One thing I don't understand is the way that people refer to "the Saudis" as if they are some kind of Borg-like hive mind of collective purpose. It's been pretty obvious in the way that bin Salman came to power and consolidated his position by jailing and killing his enemies (ultimately aided by Kushner), that there was not, and has not historically been, a single-faction "Saudi" agenda. But once we start talking about people whose skin tones get into non-Caucasian shades, it is harder for some people to see them as anything other than a collective "them" with no distinctions among them.
