After five rejections by the NVC, she is now Documentarily Qualified, meaning the NVC and the consulate in Guangzhou are setting up a time and date for her IV interview.
Big hurdle overcome.
The rest is almost automatic now. She needs to prove in the interview that we are legitimately married and that she is going to move to the US permanently, which is a much lower bar than an NIV, which the applicant has to prove they aren't staying the US.
The physical will be easy as she is clean.
After that, the visa is issued. When we come back, we give the visa packet to the CBP officer at the port of entry. She is allowed into the country, and six weeks later, she gets her SSN and her actual 10 year green card.

(37,493 posts)Why? My husband never had a physical for his green card . . . or citizenship.

(8,569 posts)I had to go to the local health department to get specific vaccines and also get tested to certify that I did not have aids and tuberculosis.

(59,703 posts)It's probably a standard thing. Even though I was married to a German since 1982, to get the residence permit, I still had to prove, on top of a clean bill of health, that I had health insurance, steady employment and financial stability, so that I wouldn't be a "welfare immigrant" coming for the benefits while contributing nothing.
Ironically, it has turned out to be the other way around. They take, all in, 50% in income taxes (on top of what I have to pay in the USA), even half my US social security, and give back zero in return. Oh, well, somebody has to pay for those tax-free 10,000 per month pensions for former members of their parliament.

No physical for citizenship- just biometrics. Easy peasy!

(1,555 posts)I try to stay up to date with your posts. I must've missed some.
The last I remember you'd exhausted your options with local & national politicians, and you were moving to be with her instead of her moving here. Then I think I read that you'd made it there. Now you're going to get to be together here.
How wonderful!!

(40,060 posts)It's horrible that the Chump administration blocked your efforts for so long.
But you and your wife have outlasted him.
With any luck Chump will be headed to prison when you and your wife return triumphantly to our shores.
