RT @jhseher: .@swongDC reports Patty Murray will succeed Kent Conrad as the next chair of the Senate Budget Committee

Senator Patty Murray is expected to be named Thursday as the new chairman of the Budget Committee.

According to an informed Washington, D.C. source, Murray, D-Wash., will assume the post in the new Congress, but is expected to have a not-insignificant role as Congress and the White House try to work out a last-minute compromise on taxes.

Murray has served on the Budget Committee since she entered the Senate in 1993. She was the Democratic co-chair of Congress’s “supercommittee” which tried and failed to come up with budget cuts during the debt impasse last year.

Murray will not have to give up her subcommittee chairmanship on the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee.
