Doodles dumped in Washington don't know how to act like normal dogs, humane society says

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A heartbreaking story of animal neglect is unfolding in Whatcom County. More than a dozen popular doodle-breed dogs have been dumped over the past two weeks.

"Doodles" are mixes between poodles and another breed of dog, often Labradors or golden retrievers. At least 18 of these mixes have been abandoned on the streets around Ferndale.

"They've apparently become an inconvenience to someone," said Robert Paris of the Whatcom Humane Society.

The dogs have been discovered roaming around East Hemmi Road, Kelly Road, Central Road and Aldergrove, and range in age from five months to four years.

Most of them have likely never been washed or groomed, according to the Whatcom Humane Society. The dogs have been so neglected they're afraid to come out of their kennels at the shelter.

"Honestly, how can someone do this to a dog," asked Paris.

The pictures are heartbreaking. Fuck puppy mills! First generations of these dogs can be sweet but people should not breed them on purpose.

My first thought was WTF? Somebody is dumping a whole farm of these critters. People have to know who is doing this. Somebody knows a doodle breeder who is selling to feed stores and pet shops.

People can be so damn cruel, and have very little to no shame in their actions.

I'm hoping that each one of these beautiful pups make a full and happy recovery -- and with no PTSD.

Lotsa belly rubs to these sweet little angels

Every day I take Vincent to the dog park, more often than not, twice.
Every doggie person there is a doting owner, the dogs are happy, fit, & highly sociable.
Then we read ugly stories like this and I realize that what I see is far from universal.

If only responsible breeders bred dogs, and only responsible people acquired them, there wouldn't be a problem.

them from other countries, and buying them at puppy mill auctions in the midwest.

Sorry, but I'm not interested in getting a pit bull from Texas or a Chihuahua from California. Get back to me when most of the dogs in shelters didn't originate from puppy mills, either directly or indirectly.

Part of being a responsible owner is knowing your limits, and finding a dog that will fit your family.

Reminds me driving down to the Jersey shore with my family as a kid. You'd easily spot one or two dogs abandoned while driving through the Pines. Just dumped as if they were unwanted garbage.

There's a special place in Hell for people who do this sort of thing.

Not useful? Good Lord!

where people dumped unwanted animals. That's how we got our Best Cat Ever. Not sure if our Best Dog Ever came from there or not, but after we took them in, other animals started wandering in. It was like ours put out name on the street or something! "These people are nice, they'll feed you and maybe even take you in." One dog I would have kept--I even gave her a temporary name, Bette Noir--but mine wouldn't have it. Another time, I opened the door and a half-grown tabby kitten ran in like something was chasing it. After a while I found where it was cowering under a chair, picked it up, and made friends with it. I gave it something to eat, it asked to go out, and I never saw it again. Several others showed up and we just had to take them to the shelter. I hated doing that but you can't take them all in!
