<snip>
Romney says president Bill Clinton called him after the election and said he might have won if not for Hurricane Sandy. Romney: "I spoke with president Clinton the day before yesterday, he called and spent thirty minutes chatting with me. He said a week out I thought you were going to win. And he said, but the hurricane happened, and it gave the president a chance to be presidential, and to look bipartisan, and you know he got a little more momentum, and of course he also said that when he was watching Ann speak at the Republican convention, he decided he was tempted to join the Republican Party. So he may have just been effusive with generous comments as he chatted. He was very complimentary, by the way, of how well we did with middle-class voters, and he said they were surprised by how strong we were in Ohio and in other states with middle-class voters, they did exceptionally well with minorities, but white, middle-class voters, we really cleaned up with and that caught them by surprise."

Maybe he's lying. here's another snippet from this piece:
Romney had a big transition team already working on the early stages of his administration, the former candidate told donors: "I wish you also had the chance to see the transition team. A large group of folks were working on everything from pieces of legislation to file to the first budget to executive orders, and it's disappointing we won't be able to file those executive orders, but I guess that happens, we're still having a hard time, just contemplating what could have been versus what is, and it just doesn't seem real, we're still in the stage of denial at my house. We still think the campaign is going on."

I honestly can't imagine Bill was "tempted to join the Republican party" Especially because of Anne... She was horrid!! This just doesn't ring true..

(15,240 posts)Remember how early in the debate Republicans were quoting Bill Clinton I figured it was due to something Clinton encouraged. When Ryan passed his budget Clinton suggested he stop by. So what does Clinton do in the 2012 Democratic Convention he comes out and eviscerates the Republican Budget of Paul Ryan and destroys Mitt Romney? By now Republicans should learn their lesson obviously Romney has not. Romney or a clone would be a dream in 2016 and Bill may have a dog in that fight. Why does Clinton do this because he can, another lesson Republicans have not learned.

(3,261 posts)Assuming this conversation happened. Would someone from the winning team really call Romney and say, "you were a terrible candidate and you never really stood a chance, anyway"? That would be a pretty meanspirited thing for someone in Clinton's position to do. Then there is the fact that letting the GOP believe that anything but poor candidates and an unpopular platform is the reason for their losses is a smart thing to do. Do the Dems really want them to wise up?
What strikes me is that Romney is desperately grasping at straws. Instead of taking this conversation with Clinton for what it is - an act of diplomacy and charity - he's clinging to it in order to perpetuate the fiction that he could have won the election if not for bad luck.

Sounds like he still has illusions that he will run again in 2016.
We really missed a bullet by not haveing him as Pres - I think he has mental/emotional problems.

(3,261 posts)I believe he's pretty much said that he's not running for President again but he seems to think that he can still lead the party. He is very, very wrong about that. The GOP is done with him.

(919 posts)Romney has said a lot of things that are untrue. And, this is one of them. He's a perpetual liar, who believes if he keeps stating something, it'll become fact. Sadly, this is not the case. I don't think Romney would be able to go one day without a lie.

(3,333 posts)Bill Clinton might have called and attempted to be nice (he is a charmer), and he may have even tooted Romney's horn a little bit. But we'll never know because Romney is a liar. Clinton ripped him to shreds on several occasions and gave the speech of his life at the DNC convention. That tells me all I need to know.
I thought that on Nov 7 we would never have to hear from the lying asshole again, but sadly, I was wrong.

(17,528 posts)One was probably to declare Obamacare null and void so it wouldn't have to go through congress. Bet he had a lot of executive orders in mind.
Two-declare an across the board tax cut of 20%. Then congress can work out/worry how to balance the budget on the poor and middle class...but the 1% would be guaranteed to
get their tax cut.
Three- Give the military 2 billion or trillion dollars.
The man is pure slime! I just hope he just oozes away into obscurity.
