(31,849 posts)of the Cadillac, parked out in front of the welfare office, that I was in picking up my foodstamps that I planned to use to buy steak, lobster, cigarettes and malt liquor. Fortunately, I found out about it on the free phone that President Obama provided me, personally, just before I didn't have to go to work.
Thanks for asking!

(P.S. I hope it's OK to post a link in a thread response - I'm new to DU, although I'm a longtime lurker, I've never really paid much attention to the protocols. Anyway, I thought you might enjoy this guy's take down of the GOP.)

(1,975 posts)Id say that we are fairly well off, I bring in almost 60k a year. Active duty...does that count as a vet?? In Florida, thats the south to some. Definitely straight, but I dont hate gays or have a problem with them in the military or getting married. This is weird, I wonder if my vote got criss crossed or something.

(21,056 posts)my bro is active and he is all new to understanding you like who you like physically. he said there's a gay guy in one of his battalion's companies, and I said there's more than one, they just aren't out to everyone, trust me, there's probably dozens! He said the guy is super nice and works hard. I said I was proud of him for understanding you don't choose who you are attracted to. And 60K? I gotta sign up! ha.. how long did that take to make that much? 15 yrs?
Thanks again for your service to our country!
Separation
(1,975 posts)And a bunch of metal in me that ain't supposed to be there. You are very correct in saying there are a lot more than just that one guy.
Ive never understood the thinking in not letting openly gay people serve...somehow they are gonna start wanting to have sexy time when all those years that they have had to live a lie and somehow refrained from raping us in the showers. Makes no sense to me, and I'm glad that they are allowed to openly serve now. Hopefully married folks will start getting benefits.
And thank you for the thanks. It means a lot.

Funny how the corporate media likes to allow that argument go without a pushback to comments like Mitt's as being laughable when he says it's only minorities that won it for Obama.

Divine Discontent
(21,056 posts)well, when the minority is a huge percentage, like 20, 30, or 40 (in this case) percent of voters, you cannot discount their votes as being unimportant. 3.75 to 4.25 out of every 10 white men support progressive policies.

(966 posts)The Republicans LOVE to try to paint us Democrats as the party of non-believers, and even with all the rhetoric surrounding the Catholic church and birth control, President Obama STILL won the Catholic vote by 2%!
That reminds me of a sign that I once saw....it said "Obama is not a brown-skinned, anti-war, socialist who gives away free healthcare...You're thinking of Jesus!"

(3,557 posts)I've mentioned this a few times before here, but I can't seem to find a poll or data to support my assertion. I suspect that most veterans who served in an Infantry roll or who were intimately involved in direct combat lean left with their politics. The military vets who lean right, from what I can tell, usually are poges or, if they were in a combat MOS, were fortunate enough to never fight in a war.
Does anyone know of a poll that would confirm or debunk my claim?
