(39,086 posts)That nun story is from 2020. Snopes says the women claim they are nuns from an order called "Children of Mary". However, they are not recognized by the Catholic church.

The church doesn't recognize these other trumpy nuns either:

As for the claims about the nun's real identities, all I can find is the exact same image from a site called IFunny Brazil.

(1,944 posts)... but actual real nuns, just not from a papal sanctioned group. Also other nuns celebrated TFG, and one spoke at the Republican National Convention, claiming that he was "the most pro-life president this nation has ever had."
Naturally there are also very good nuns, balancing the demands of the Pope while being activist for social change and against war - and sometimes also these get thrown out by the Pope.

(29,177 posts)Just like Mel Gibson goes to a fake Catholic Church. I am a flaming atheist, but was raised RC and taught CCD for quite a while. Not santctioned means not actual.

(1,944 posts)I do accept that these women were living in a convent as nuns. Like other nuns in bad standing with the Godfather though, but still living and acting as nuns. Whatever the Pope decide about this, will not rule my world. I know, as I wrote, of other free nuns (and munks and priests), who are still doing what they believe are Gods work anyway, and even more so for this.
But I would have liked the Pope to kick out those other so-called "real nuns" who supported Trump, thanks!

(1,944 posts)... a Public Association of the Faithful authorized by the local diocese. They are called the "Children of Mary", and are basically only found in Cincinnati, founded about twenty years ago.
They are not nuns, technically, I do not mean to imply they are faking or playing dress up. Most people refer to all consecrated women or women religious as nuns and this is technically incorrect. Nuns are monastic, and only one small subset of the much broader category of consecrated women. These are a canonically legit order at the diocesan level.
