it's been over a year since the last one
(i didn't qualify to get it sooner and the longer i waited the more i wanted this new one: spikevax)
last monday i went online and made an appointment for walgreens today at 12:30.
i didn't fill out the paperwork online so i got their early to do that.
went inside the store wearing my nifty pink kn95 and got in line behind 4 other people at 11:52. it took 20 minutes for me to get up to the counter. while they were looking me up in the computer and printing up the form for me to fill out and sign the pharmacist and the two techs were counting how many covid vaccines they had left. there were only three left after mine. and someone came in after me for their shot. that would leave the pharmacy with just two more.
they would be calling everyone (other than the 3 after me) to cancel their appointments for the day. (maybe for tomorrow too; i didn't ask)
i asked why they were running out and they said they were giving the vaccine without appointments.
anyway, it took a little over an hour before i was back in my car.
they aren't giving out vaccine cards either. they're sending your covid vaccine info to your doctor (so i needed to give them my docs name/address/phone -- and luckily/oddly enuf i had that info with me). the pharmacist said "i don't know why they're doing that. people have been telling me the airport in new york is asking to see the card"
when i left i decided to stop & get a latte and some lunch to take home. i am under the impression that eating protein before and after that shot helped me the last few moderna times so i'm hoping loading up on protein today and tomorrow will prevent adverse side effects. maybe it will and maybe it won't. i'll find out.
anyway, hope all my friends here can get their vaccine sooner rather than later

(80,767 posts)So far I am fine but a bit dizzy.
I usually don't get sick until the day after the vax.
Yes they didn't want to mark my covid vax card, just wanted to send me an email.
I said no, and handed them my card and the gal filled it out.

(17,802 posts)So far, no side affects. If I make it through tomorrow I will be amazed.
The last time I got a flu and covid at the same time it leveled me for days.

(97,051 posts)They were out of the vaccine. Made another and got both flu and COVID shots. I asked what was up with the cancellation and they said it was high demand.
I also read that the roll out is not government run and hence, the screw ups.
Keep trying, Bill!

(8,762 posts)getting paxlovid. For first time in long time, half the people inside were wearing masks.
orleans
(36,817 posts)2. the pharmacist (lame surgical mask) who only put it on to go in the little booth to give the shots
3. an older lady (surgical mask) getting a couple vaccines (but her husband wasn't wearing a mask)
4. a big guy in his 30s (a nifty kn95 mask!) who was only shopping and not getting a vaccine
glad there were a lot of people wearing masks by you considering paxlovid was the hot commodity

(4,002 posts)Had the new shot on Wednesday. Arm a little sore but otherwise fine. Wanted the RSV as well but im.not 60 so would've been $325. Will wait until it's covered.

Thanks

(36,817 posts)call your pharmacy and ask if your insurance doesn't then how much do they charge
it still might be free but there might be an administration charge/fee.
i googled when i saw your question and am getting a lot of older articles that might not apply
here is a current piece in nytimes that you might want to read. let me know if there is a paywall and i'll fix that for you.

(3,642 posts)Within a couple of hours, I got my usual headache. I dont know why, but with each Covid vaccine, I get a massive headache that knocks me off my feet. Fever, skin hurt and general feeling of malaise followed. I gave up and took Advil in the middle of the night because it was so awful. Woke up this morning all sweaty. This was tough, but glad I got it done.
