Commander Biden bites another Secret Service agent, the 11th known incident

Comment: Good Boy

President Joe Biden’s younger dog, Commander, bit another US Secret Service agent at the White House Monday evening, CNN has learned, the 11th known biting incident involving the 2-year-old German Shepherd.

“Yesterday around 8 p.m., a Secret Service Uniformed Division police officer came in contact with a First Family pet and was bitten. The officer was treated by medical personnel on complex,” USSS chief of communications Anthony Guglielmi told CNN in a statement.

The injured officer spoke with Secret Service Uniformed Division Chief Alfonso M. Dyson Sr. on Tuesday and is doing OK, Guglielmi said.

Commander has been involved in at least 11 biting incidents at the White House and in Delaware, according to CNN reporting and US Secret Service email correspondence, including a November 2022 incident where an officer was hospitalized after the dog clamped down on their arms and thighs.

The reporting seems to indicate that SS agents are the only ones being bitten? No guests, family, friends, workers etc?

The dog isn’t going to change. He needs to be relocated or else the SS needs to find a different way for their agents to interact with him.

The Secret Service is what gets the most attention because (a) people love to think that Commander's behavior is some kind of indication of the moral character of the agents handpicked by Biden and (b) because most of the FOIAs that uncovered this biting history were for the Secret Service.

That sucks for the dog, but there aren’t a lot of places for habitual biters. Certainly not where he is now. If I had a dog with this problem, the city I live in would require the dog to be put down long before they got to double digits in the bite count.

is this dog being put down because he’s a biter. When there are animal/human problems, animals almost always lose. Maybe this dog’s instincts are right on and maybe not…but it might be time to move Commander out of the WH…or away from the SS at least.

I was badly bitten once by a yellow lab that belonged to my brother in law. It was awful.

Don't know why, but those are the sorts of dogs my wife is most attracted to. Which possibly explains our marriage.

I grew up with many difficult dogs so I've got six decades of experience.

I'm always very cautious introducing our dogs to people who are not comfortable with dogs, and I never let them anywhere near people they could possibly perceive as a threat to their family/pack.

I'm very much a dog person, our dogs are allowed to sleep with us on the bed, but I don't think anyone should be allowing dogs (or cats) to breed. Spay and neuter them all.

There are too many dogs, cats, and humans on this planet. The humans are especially dangerous.

Eleven biting incidents? Why on earth hasn't Biden proactively moved Commander back to Delaware along with his other biting dog, Major? I'm sorry. I love the President, but in this, he is absolutely wrong.

The men and women who work at the White House and on the President's protection detail have the right to go to work without being bitten by a vicious dog. It should not be at the White House in that environment. It is too reactive to all the stress, people, and the general environment of the White House. GSD's are natural protectors. Commander is clearly not suited to be a White House dog. He would do better back in Delaware out of that environment. Right now, he is being set up to fail.

It has been eleven bites. I am embarrassed by some of the comments in this thread. What would we say if a child was bitten in our town by a vicious dog who had bitten 11 times before? What would we say if a Black male blue collar worker had to go to work every day and their boss insisted on bringing their vicious dog who had bitten 11 times previously and it bit them? This site would be up in arms! What would we be saying if the Trumps had a vicious pit bull in the White House and it had bitten staff 11 times? Democrats would be going crazy. So why is it suddenly okay for Commander to be biting men and women who are just trying to go to work and do their jobs? There is a huge power differential here between some staff worker in the White House, whether it's the secret service, or a housekeeper, or a staffer, and the President of the United States.
