Why do Trump's primary competitors praise him so?

(Except for Christie, who knows he has no chance. He is just getting some revenge.)

They anticipate / hope that Trump will be forced to bow out. They are afraid of him and his supporters. When Trump is out of the running, they will be able to say that they were pro-Trump all along.
