Tuberville won't bend on military blockade amid Israel crisis

Tuberville won’t bend on military blockade amid Israel crisis
After Hamas attacked Israel, Senate Democrats said it was past time for several top-level military nominees to be approved.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville is not relenting from his monthslong blockade of military nominations over the Biden administration’s abortion policy — even in the face of one of America’s closest allies going to war.

___

Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) told POLITICO Saturday that America needs a Senate-confirmed chief of naval operations amid the chaos in Israel. Tuberville spokesperson Steven Stafford responded Sunday: “Sen. Schatz should do what Coach did and file a cloture petition,” referring to the senator, a former football coach.

Typically, military promotions are processed en masse, but individual senators have the leverage to require roll call votes. The Senate would have time for little else if it confirmed them all individually, so Tuberville’s blanket objection has effectively stalled the typically uncontroversial promotions process.

As a result, over 300 nominees are in limbo, including two picks for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and top officers slated to command U.S. forces in the Middle East.

“The severity of the crisis in Israel underscores the foolishness of Senator Tuberville’s blockade,” Senate Armed Services Chair Jack Reed said in a statement Sunday. “The United States needs seamless military leadership in place to handle dangerous situations like this and Senator Tuberville is denying it.

Bite the bullet and tell Tubberville to shit or get off the pot. National Security is at stake here.

But will he and Republican Senate Leadership do it?

Take a page from the GQP and completely mis-frame Tubbys position. Calling it pro-Putin hasn't worked, let's try pro-Hamas instead. It's like he's providing aid and
comfort to the enemy.

The situation in Israel is going to be in the news for awhile. Every person interviewed, regardless of the actual question asked, should just pivot to Tuberville and his "pro-Hamas" stance, and question why is he intentionally weakening our military and compromising our allies in this time of crisis?

to drown out the sound of the universe. The media would also take dem leadership to task for not getting their member in line. The media is such a HUGE part of our problem.

Whatever happened to the
whole hoopla about National security.
Even the orange one gave out national security secrets and the issue probably lasted a half of a news cycle and that's it.

Is the current “acting” Chief of Naval operations.

The people awaiting confirmation simply take the job as “acting” until confirmed.

She could be formally confirmed any time with a simple roll call vote.

they don't get the same pay they would if they were confirmed. Nor do their families have the security of knowing where they should live/work/go to school until that confirmation comes.

Are you seriously defending this shit? There is NO reason for it. NONE.

If he doesn't like abortion, then he shouldn't get an abortion. Other than that he should sit down and shut the fuck up.

Increase the number of Senators needed to place holds past a set period of time (after one month require two Senators, after two months require four Senators, etc.), or suspend all holds during a time of National Security event (President decides. Like when rights and freedoms were suspended because of nebulous "war on terrorism" ).

One Senator should never have been entitled to block all nominations to force a change in Federal policy and/or legislation. The President was elected to set the policy. The entire legislature gets to vote on nominations.
