Outrage grows after 'chilling call for genocide' by Florida Republican

Calls to censure Michelle Salzman, who said, ‘All of them’ when Democrat asked: ‘How many [dead Palestinians] will be enough?’

Outrage continues to grow over a public comment made by a Florida state Republican lawmaker calling for all Palestinians to die. The remarks came during a debate in the state legislature about calling for a ceasefire in Israel’s invasion of Gaza, which has so far killed more than 10,000 Palestinians, many of whom are children. The assault came after Hamas fighters attacked Israel from Gaza, killing at least 1,400 people and taking more than 200 hostage.

In the speech in support of the ceasefire resolution, the Democratic Florida state representative Angie Nixon said: “We are at 10,000 dead Palestinians. How many will be enough?” “All of them,” Michelle Salzman called in reply. Nixon acknowledged the interruption and said: “One of my colleagues just said, ‘All of them.’ Wow.” The Florida state house later voted 104-2 to reject Nixon’s resolution. Salzman’s office did not respond to a request for comment.

The Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (Cair-Florida), the US’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, said in a statement that Salzman’s remarks were a “chilling call for genocide” and a “direct result of decades of dehumanization of the Palestinian people by advocates of Israeli apartheid and their eager enablers in government and the media”.

The news comes on the heels of the censure of the Michigan congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, the only Palestinian American in the US Congress, after Tlaib echoed a popular rallying cry for Palestine that some have called antisemitic but others say is a call for Palestinian civil rights. The censure resolution, which was supported by 22 Democrats, punishes Tlaib for allegedly “calling for the destruction of the state of Israel” and “promoting false narratives” about the 7 October attack by Hamas on Israel.

5. It's Florida, man. I live here. It thrives on this stuff. If there is a mechanism,

it might not be used; if it is, it will be used for reasons that have nothing to do with what she said.

10. I live here. Trust me, there are plenty of woke Democrats in this state. Don't let the numbers fool you.

When I say "it's Florida, man," I also mean it's fucking complicated.
Florida, LIKE AMERICA, is not a monolith. Have you noticed how complicated America is these days? Anyway, back to Florida...

Re the numbers: Voter, registration, and legislative suppression have been going on here since cheaters publicly reared their heads in 2000. Remember, Koch was at work in other states at the time. So the Kavanaugh and Brooks Brothers crew got on with the vote count drama and with the help of John the Pirate Roberts, overturned Gore here. No recourse. They've been fucking with numbers ever since; once you don't have the presidential vote count challenged again, the rest get unchallenged. Challenging is expensive, as we know.

Re the people: Florida is full of blue;
full of billionaires who want to run it like their corporate plantation;
full of pissed off youth like Maxwell Frost and David Hogg and other Parkland graduates;
full of Young College Democrats groups (that exist in all 50 states) ;
full of LGBTQ;
full of child bearing age women, etc. who want it to be a blue state.

I have a long list of candidates I donate to who are trying to turn districts blue. I just donated again to a good military vet, Phil Ehr, who's trying to turn Dist 28 blue so he can get a House seat.
DU folks could help Florida Dems out with donations.
I pushed Charlie Crist, Val Demings, Maxwell Frost and Phil Ehr here. I consistently get zero reaction. I know Val Demings did not get the funding she deserved, even though she broke even with Rubio in debate, but that's another discussion.

You've seen the national polls on major issues.
We can not target Florida and not ask your very same question of every red state and the U.S. House itself -- " A day doesn't pass that I don't ask myself what will it take for XX voters/leaders to wake up??!!"

We're down here, we're totally with the Democrats, so they have to stick with us, okay?

The batshit weirdness of Tallahassee has been bought and paid for, has to get chipped away at, and we're workin' on it. And given this state's electoral numbers, a little commitment of help from the larger party would tip things.

It's been a long day. Catch up with you tomorrow if you're inclined.

Have a good night! 😴

On edit: I did give to Val and Christ and other FL candidates. I’m not picking on you or any Dems in FL.

that Florida needs the party to offset the 16 batshit billionaires who run it. Thanks for your post.

praying to be spared as some thoughtless legislator in another country calls for the death of all her people.
