Thanks to everyone who has asked about my health and wellbeing. I have been dealing with some health issues of late, and decided that a bit of a vacation from politics might be in order.
I still check into DU every day, but have limited my time here and on other political sites so as not to threaten my mental/emotional stability. One can only listen to so much insanity spewing from the MAGAts - and I hit my personal limit a while back.
I firmly believe that we as a nation will be all right, that common sense and common decency will prevail in the end. I'm just really tired of listening to the bullshit between now and then - the inanity, the insanity, the lies, the cries, the whimpering, the hyperbole, the hypocrisy, the martyrdom, the persecution, the victimhood, the yada-yada-yada entreaties of those who believe that Joe Biden is
a body-double because the 'real Biden' was executed years ago.
I don't think I'm alone when I say I just can't]/i]. I just can't pretend that obvious idiots have a functioning brain.

We really miss those who present as an eloquent voice of reason when they aren't around!
Many of us have had to limit our exposure to the bullshit, I surely do. When I am out with others I often avoid political conversation just for the break. I tell my therapist that the political situation is one of the main reasons I use marijuana and go to therapy. Long walks along the river help too.
Thanks for checking, many of us were concerned, not Susan Collins concerned, real concern. Do take care of yourself, we all have to remain strong through this next few seasons and do our due diligence when it's time to vote.

(7,833 posts)rambunctious partisans screech to a halt and say, "Hey, where's Nancy?? Is she all right?" You are so good at kicking that we all hope you take care of yourself so you can return to the fray refreshed and recharged. Although I don't have a river bank to recommend, I have a splendid array of trees and a very brave rose bush. You are not alone!!

(86,005 posts)...walk away.
Definite mental impact absorbing yourself in the day to day chaos and madness on the internet. It got me really bad in the past, laid me low before I realized what I was doing to myself.
Distance always helps. Limiting time is a good rule, but just turning the computer off is always a good decision.
But you are so missed here. We'll always be anxious when you step away, and endlessly appreciative to see you return.

(9,867 posts)I use a very long block list on DU, take walks ( with my camera in hand, because nature is full of surprises when you slow down and look closely) and practice piano, not enough.
Chores fall behind. Oops.
Good hobbies help you "focus" and stay "harmonious".
So do block lists.
The zombies have dropped all pretense, and are only talking nazi tropes. America has rejected them in all recent elections.

(2,949 posts)do understand your laying low for a bit. I have a dear friend who keeps sending me links to junk on rumble. I slowly point out the flaws in the stuff from rumble but, it is starting to reach a limit for me.

(514 posts)to keep reminding myself that most of what we hear/see on TV is pure conjecture. I often turn it off, thinking, Let me know when something actually happens, one way or the other.
They thrive on stirring up our emotions in hopes well spend more time online watching/listening to their programs.
I hope you find some peace that allows you to participate here without overloading yourself.

(111,339 posts)so don't expect a return to what we never really had.
What we can hope for is common disillusionment that causes the personality cultists and hero worshipers to be forced into a long, hard look at what's really on top of those pedestals and wander back to whatever lunacy they were invested in before they discovered politics.
I know it sounds a bit harsh, but I remember that the religious zealots were a hell of a lot easier to deal with before Reagan and his televangelist cronies introduced them to the worldly act of voting. They will have the easiest time returning to their former worlds, the rejection of worldly things is Step 2 for them, the first step the rejection of respect for other people's personal boundaries.
It's the few who are not religious who will have the harder time, but deprived of numbers from the religious, they will probably sink into sullen and sodden resentment. A few will act out with guns.
While we wait for the Great Disillusionment, avoiding broadcast, cable and online content that starts to turn us grouchy and stressed out is important.
Good luck on finding your own balance on that, you were missed.

(3,193 posts)We all need occasional breaks from the current insanity, worse with the Slobfather and the traitorous media than ever. I haven't watched any "news" on TV in 19 years since the re-installation of cheneybushcorp, and avoid seeing Shitler's face or hearing his whining at all costs.
Regroup and come back stronger, 'cause we need your insights more than ever.

(146,329 posts)In fact, I have stepped back from participation on DU, too. I still have it as an open tab in my browser all the time, and still check it for news, etc. But, I'm posting almost zero OPs and am responding to only a few posts each day. So, I'm participating now on several non-political forums that are about subjects that interest me.
Frankly, I grew weary of the same small group who showed up every time I posted to criticize, insult and harass. I don't need that, so I'm not getting that any longer. There's only so much I can do, so I'm reading DU, rather than participating in discussions these days. But, I'm still here. It's good to see you here, too.
Be well. Be safe. Be informed.
